Pre-EPIC...My success will dwarf my past weight loss accomplishments!

Thursday, January 27, 2011

On Sunday I will participate in the first month long leg of the San Antonio Spark Team EPIC challenge. The challenge will run for the rest of 2011. It was created by VEGLILS, Motivator Extraordinaire. She has worked out the details to a science, spending weeks, no make that more than a month, striving to make this challenge, well..EPIC! I am going to brag here a bit. Something I said in comment on one of her wonderful blogs inspired her to create this challenge so it behooves me to give my best efforts to all of the hard work she has put into this. End of brag. emoticon

EPIC is broken up into 4 sections and you can earn up to 7 points per week:

Participation (blog, comments on pages, welcome new members, post on team page)
Calories (stay in range 5 days for 1 point, 7 days for 2 points)

Get it? EPIC! HELLO? E - P - I - C? NOW you got it! emoticon Just kidding, I know you got it, but I'm in one of THOSE kinds of moods today.

After I finish this blog I will be entering all of the required tracking for the challenge under the "OTHER GOALS" section here on Spark so I can track each and every day that I am staying on target and being successful. emoticon

The "I" in EPIC is going to be a changing theme each month. You get 1 point per week for meeting this goal.February's improvement goal is appropriately enough a heart-healthy improvement challenge such as to stop smoking, increase your fiber, stay within your cholesterol range or stay within your sodium range at least 5 out of 7 days of the week. I have elected to stay within my cholesterol range because as a heart attack survivor I am aware that my high cholesterol was a major contributor to my blocked arteries. Oh how I love my red meat, but I love my beating heart so much better! emoticon

We are expected to put in a certain number of minutes of exercise for the "E" in EPIC and can earn up to 3 points per week in this category. Here is how it breaks down:
E-- Exercise-- possible 3 points per week
A: Burn 2011 calories each week: 1 point
B: Exercise for 10 minutes 3 times a week: 1 point
C: Exercise for 30 minutes 3 times a week: 1 point
If you earn the points for C, you get the points for B, of course!

Here is my exercise plan: (some of which I stole from VEGLILS!)
I plan to put in some cardio EVERY day, but Saturday will be my "easy" day and if I need to take the day off there, so be it!

Sunday: 10 minutes of stretching,30 minute P90 Sculpt, 15-30 minutes walking
Monday: 10 minutes of stretching,30 minute P90 Cardio
Tuesday: 10 minutes of stretching,30 minute P90 Sculpt, 15-30 minutes walking
Wednesday: 10 minutes of stretching, 30 minute P90 Cardio
Thursday: 10 minutes of stretching, 30 minute P90 Sculpt, 15-30 minutes walking
Friday: 10 minutes of stretching, 30 minute P90 Cardio
Saturday: 10 minutes of stretching, 30 minutes walking

As I mentioned, you can earn up to 7 points per week. I plan to earn all 7 each and every week. I will not be upset with 6, but if I earn less than that I am going to be having a very serious conversation with myself and it better not happen again! emoticon

It is my goal, my challenge to myself to really embrace EPIC and make this MY year. I want to be a major contender, competitor, motivator, and inspiration. I am one of the oldest participants and I plan on showing EVERYONE that 50 ROCKS and this will be my EPIC year!

If you haven't yet signed up for EPIC, San Antonians, I encourage you to do this. I want as many of you as possible to join in this challenge, this battle to fight for our health.
Here something a little corny to leave you with: If you complete this challenge, this EPIC challenge, the battle will be won and it can be said of you: "My Friends…..You Bow To No One” (Quote from an EPIC movie!)
