To be successful ... you REALLY have to want it!

Thursday, May 05, 2011

I guess I've never really wanted it before. I've said I wanted it ... I've felt I wanted it but I never, ever managed to be successful at it. Each person needs to search their own hearts and figure out if now is really the time. So many other times I have attempted this journey but I wasn't doing it because I really wanted to ... I was doing it because I had an event coming up or I was feeling blue about something ... even because a friend was showing signs of success at their own weightloss journey ... these are not real reasons. You have to want it for your own personal reasons. To be healthy for the rest of your life, to not end up like an unhealthy parent ... you must realize it really is a lifestyle change ... it's not just a diet to get the weight off and then you go back to the way things were. You really have to make the changes necessary to lose the weight and then you must maintain those changes to keep the weight off for the rest of your life. In order to make those changes and make them a permanent part of the balance of your life ... you have to be prepared. You must prepare yourself mentally because it's a huge change and it's not an easy one to stick to. Fast food restaurants are all around us and daily we are challenged by business meeting luncheons, holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, social get-togethers. If you aren't mentally prepared you will make all the wrong choices at each and every one of these events. No! You do NOT have to stop attending all those wonderful functions ... you just have to learn how to make better choices and when to cut off the munching. It's really not that tough when you are prepared. It helps to have wonderful people around you who are willing to cheer you on.

Love, Love, Love this! you are totally right!

Cinco de Mayo was torture yesterday as we had a HUGE potluck at work. The whole office smelled like Mexican food all day long. I kept within my calorie range by having a few things and small amounts.

I think the mental part of this journey is harder than anything else. Before I would just give up if I had a hard day. Now I pick myself up and keep going the next day, because everyday is a new chance.

Congrats on your journey and all your hard work!!! Have a wonderful weekend!!

Spark helps in this aspect. I agree it's a life time change but we can and do lighten up on occasion as long as it doesn't begin to become a long time thing. Weight is easy to gain so I guess that is why it's so hard to maintain. Keep Sparking.
