I HATE my Scale

I have been exercise and strength training religiously. I have been eating healthfully and recording what I eat. I am doing good on all fronts. BUT THE SCALE WILL NOT MOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!! 2 days in a row I finally hit the 60# loss and posted on my Sparkpage, then I promtly gained 2# and they STUCK!!!!!!!!! I refuse to take the lost 60 pound off my sparkpage but I am a fraud. I mean COME ON! I really am not cheating, I am eating what I always eat and NOTHING!!!!!!!!! I know I shouldn't let the scale get me down because I am making positive changes and blah, blah, blah... But I guess I have not truly made a "Lifestyle Change". I will always seem to live and die by the scale.

I am about to dive into a pepperoni pizza and drown my sorrows. Or maybe it should be tequilla? Give me strength.

    I wrote a blog about how the scale is the devil and I see blogs everyday from people with the same problem. Now that the scale is not moving you have to focus on NSV(Non-Scale Victories) you should take your measurements and not weigh yourself for a month and then after a month check your measurements again. I guarantee you will see a difference. Also focus on your endurance and energy level. Take before and after pics and compare. You are doing awesome!!! 60 pounds is the size of a small child. Kick the scale to the curb!!

    Try tracking your weight over at physicsdiet.com. It calculates a trend weight. As long as you're below the trend line, you're doing fine, going in the right direction.

    For me this takes away the frustration of plateaus and normal water fluctuations.

    Also, do track your measurements. They will tell a more complete story about how your body composition is changing.

    I do know your pain - but I also know that perseverance pays off in the end. I have already seen your next blog but had to come read this one as well.

    Part of this lifestyle change is realizing that our program will never end, not even when we reach goal weight.

    I, too, have not lost weight in two weeks, but my clothes are fitting loosely and I needed a smaller pair of new jeans for the event I am going to Monday.

    Hang in there...maybe switch something up in your food or exercise...surprise your body into "responding" again. This will happen ever so often, just don't let it get to you.

    The scale is one measure and our body is another. DW was gripping about not losing weight and commented that her clothes were fitting better. Had to ask her ,"why" before she realized good things were happening. Have patience, you work your SP plan and you will get healthier.

    I don't know if this will help any but when I am at odds with my scale I try to remember that I don't throw away my car just because I get a flat tire.... You are doing so well and working the program and you are definatly NOT a fraud.... emoticon

    Ignore that scale for a couple of days. Keep doing what you are doing and let you body get the hang of that lovely weight loss. Change up your exercise. Surprise your muscles with something totally different...hoola hoop anyone?? emoticon

    I have to agree with some of the other comments - don't just use the scale to track your health. Do you feel better? Can you do more things you couldn't before? How do your clothes fit? Patience! I stepped on the scale this morning and gasped - up a pound! I quickly looked around to see if one of the cats were standing on it with me! LOL! No such luck!


    ps - I'd take the tequila over the pepperoni!

    I agree with the scale thing - put it away so you CAN'T stand on it. I know that's really hard since I step on mine every day but you need to try it since it's not moving. And, I sure wouldn't feel guilty about not taking the 60 lbs lost off the page if you're doing everything you're supposed to. It could be water weight, it could be your body's adjusting to all the exercise. All of a sudden you'll have several lbs lost.

    And stay away from the pizza and tequila. Then you would have to take off the 60 lbs!!! Good luck!!

    Hang in there! You are doing so well!!! As addicted to mine as I am, I still believe that scales are evil! I have a love/hate relationship with mine. But if I don't use it I tend to gain, so for me it is a touchstone. Even though I am losing so slowly(I am battling with my thyroid and menopause) I try not to get crazy about it...although my husband would probably tell you that I do get crazy about it! Anyway, YOU HAVE LOST 58 POUNDS!!! That is an amazing feat! Give yourself some credit here.... If you really need to dive into something.... you could go back to the pool!

    I only check my weight every two weeks as long as I am staying on track with my exercise and eating. I can't let the scale ruin how I feel about myself as long as I am progressing.

    Why not shove that scale into a closet for a while?

    Focus on doing what you know is right...and ENJOYING how you feel when you exercise, how tasteful and filling you find healthy food to be?!? According to your weight line, you have been losing weight. Ok, maybe you're on a plateua.

    Maybe it's time to rev things up by switching from one form of exercise to another. Should you reevaluate your caloric intake? If you haven't done it since you've lost the last 10 or more pounds, this may be a key.

    But the fact is that as you lose weight it will be slower and the exercise will mean a shifting from fat to muscle...resulting in less rapid pound-loss even though you're making wonderful progress!
    Don't give up. Yes DO shove the scale out of sight for a while because it has become a negative symbol to you at this time.
    You have done great.
    You can stay on track.
    You WILL persist!!
