Beating the Holiday Food Fear

Thursday, June 30, 2011

It can be done. I have no fear about this long weekend. I have two barbecues to go to and of course the fair with fireworks. A lot of temptation, a lot of "off my plan" foods. That feeling of "how am I going to say no" to certain food is gone. I know I can have that funnel cake if I want, I'm just choosing not to this weekend. I know I'll be on line buying my sweetie some zeppoles and he'll enjoy them. I need to feel good about myself and that means not eating sugary snacks right now. The barbecues might not have grilled chicken, but I'll make due with what is being offered. It's just a way of eating that I choose for myself. I am going to hang with family and friends and that is what I'm looking forward to. Just think, you can have just about anything at the parties at a later date if you choose, so smile at those chips and dip and think bikini and most of all great health! I just wanted people to know it gets easier. I've been a fitness/nutrition person my whole adult life and trust me there were times I dreaded going out with my friends wondering how I would not have a beer and nachos! You can do it too. No more excuses!

Everyone have a safe and healthy 4th of July weekend.

You are so right. Must have a plan to avoid those temptations. Seems like whenever my DW and I have a potluck at the house, no matter how many times we tell people that we don't need a dessert, someone invariably brings a cake, brownies. They need to be REPROGRAMMED! Sorry, but it gets me bothered. hehe

I love how cool you are about the BBQ situation. Like "yeah, the food will be there but I'm not going to let myself be tempted."

I'm still learning to say no, and how to set boundaries. Well, saying no is not the hard part for me, its the questions that follow and feeling like I have to explain myself. I'm a people pleaser - always have been - but I'm making a conscious effort to please myself first!

Girl I sooo love this! It's one of the most important lessons I've learned while training for my competition...and that is how to say no and politely decline food! It's such an empowering feeling to finally get to this point after years of always giving in. You are so right, we will be healthy this weekened and the funnel cake will still be there after the holidays, haha.
