Feminine Issues: Help?

Whenever I'm on my period, the scale either doesn't budge or goes up just a tad. Despite being a couple pounds lighter a couple days before my period starts, I seem to gain it all back when my period hits. What gives?

I didn't have this problem last summer, when I maintained pretty much the same diet and exercise regimen. However, last time, I was on the pill.

Has anyone else experienced this?

    Just keep drinking your water, follow your program, and avoid the scale until it's over. I always gain water weight, sometimes as much as 5-7 pounds, and it goes away when the other issue does.

    I agree, could be water weight. Drink more water, and yes green tea will help as well.

    Shoot, I could go up 5-10 pounds. Green tea helps to flush water and toxins. Do. Oz recommends it. Watch the cravings associated with the hormones. Best of luck.

    I never take too much stock in what I weigh from right before TOM til about 3 days after it's gone. Sometimes I can lose slowly throughout that time, and other times my body does exactly what you're describing. For me, having gone through infertility, I think I only ovulate part of the time. So the cycles I ovulate, i have a harder time.

    Hang in there. Get good workouts, drink a lot of water, the scale WILL move down again.

    My two thoughts follow everyone else...water and hormones. Just try to limit salt intake, especially during that time, and drink extra water. Hormones, well, they are what they are. I wouldn't sweat the extra pound or two if you are losing it after you're "done". The move up on the scale usually is my sign that it is that time, but I know the rest of the time I am on a more normal scale.

    Hi - I can totally relate. I seem to have the same issue. I really like when the scale shows the number is quite a bit smaller when I am done with my cycle - but it is frustrating during. I've taken the approach to limit sodium intake which minimizes the increase. I also eat a little lower in my daily caloric intake range in order to combat the bloating that takes place around my cycle.

    I assume it's just a part of the hormones shifting and as long as I don't mindlessly eat - I know that it will be okay. Maybe you should avoid weighing during your cycle if it concerns you. I avoid the scale for my heavy flow days.

    Its all about fluid retention. You will lose it as you move on through your menses. Don't fret, its that way with all of us. Continue to drink your water tho. You still need hydration, more so now as the fluid is not circulating that has caused your weight gain. Blessings on your week
