Back to School

My son still has a week of summer vacation. However, I'm back in class - Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM. After a full year of being unemployed, I am changing tack. This last week has been so strange; adjusting to having to be awake at a certain time, changing eating and workout schedules...just focusing on being where I need to be - I fell off the wagon, and hit the ground HARD this week. I've hardly met any of my weekly goals. Its been difficult to find the time - you know - for anything.
This is an intensive 5 week program for certification in nursing assisting. I'm afraid I won't have time for much of anything outside of school, and my family/household obligations. I've got to at least stay on top of my eating. The first week back to class, the food was difficult. We don't get a lunch break (we are allowed to eat during class), and I didn't plan well. I hope to change that this week by carefully planning and bringing my own food, rather than hitting the vending machine in the hall.
Hopefully, I can snag some time in the evenings for the treadmill...I'm scared I won't be able to. We're covering all of a 45 chapter text book, plus labs and clinical rounds in the 5 week course. The information and the exams will be coming at me so quickly, and I will have to spend so much of my time out of class studying to keep up with the information.
I'm a little stressed. I'm pretty scared. I gained 2 pounds this week. I still haven't had any substantial loss in the nearly two months I've been active again at Spark*People. Lots of fluctuating within the same 4 pounds...and its been frustrating. Looks like, for the next month anyway, I will continue to experience the same fluctuations and frustrations...

I'll keep trying, anyway.

    I know how difficult this can be, believe me! Concentrate more on making sure you eat well and don't stress about everything else. You will get through this and be better for it! I found it great to package all my food into tupperware or ziploc baggies in 100-200 calorie increments whenever I had a spare moment so that I could just grab and go and then not worry about wtf I was eating out of the vending machine.

    Astarte, just being aware of your challenges is a good start. You can't expect for an instant adjustment immediately. Sounds like you've already identified something you need to do. Pack yourself lots of good snacks and know that you've got the food part covered within your school hours. If you stay in the present moment as best you can and take 10 mins. to meditate, you'll eventually flow back into a pattern of wellness. Don't worry about the weight right now. If you can't hit the treadmill just do some good stretches after you read each chapter. Don't beat yourself up, my friend. You've a lovely goal ahead of you and everything else will be there when class is done!!! Good luck and Buddha bless. Breathe, Maggie
