Smoky skies, Clean garage, & Fall 5%Challenge

Saturday, September 03, 2011

We've got forest fires a couple of hours to the east of us here and the wind's been blowing in from that direction for about 5 hours. The sky is absolutely yellow, the sun is barely cutting through and the smell of smoke is tickling my throat. Wasn't expecting this today.

Luckily I was up 'n at 'em early this morning. The neighbors across the street are on a short vacation so I took advantage of being able to throw open the garage doors and, without having anybody directly across from me watching my foolishness, did the annual cleaning of the garage. Except this year is a bi-annual cleaning since it didn't get done last year. Moving every thing from one side to the other then using the blower to knock all the cobwebs down and clear out under the freezer. Then take the dang push broom and tackle the floor. Then repeat process for other half.

I'm pretty honest with myself about counting my cardio. I didn't count last weeks hours of power-washing because it can't really be considered "cardio" by anyone's standards. Today, after my work in the garage, I posted cardio minutes. It's apparently been awhile since I've done any heavy lifting and moving or pushing a broom. I've been reminded what sore muscles are supposed to feel like. It is a virtuous feeling.

It's the last week of the Summer 5% Challenge and I hope to keep the exercise momentum going.

If anyone's interested in joining up for the next go-round, here's a link to the Fall Team. I can't express strongly enough how much I appreciate the incentive I get from belonging to the Daisies and we can always use new members. www.sparkpeople.com/mysp

Sounds so great that you were able to clean out your garage and count it as cardio. I was just looking to find some chores for today that could count as cardio, since I can't make it to the gym today, and decided that it would just have to be a ST day for me. Keep it up! =)

It must be so liberating to clean of all that stuff. During cleaning, I noticed that things "get out of the house" - I love those moments when I can put unused stuff out of my apartment. Just needs time to sort.

As for the cardio, I use a Zephyr heart rate monitor that connect to my Nokia phone. If my heart rate is above 140-150, then that's a good cardio. If it's only around 100 bpm, then I don't count it. "Unfortunately", as I got more endurance lately, it takes more effort to push it up to the cardio range. :-)

Cleaning the garage is cardio in my book. I haven't done ours because of all the weight lifting and sweating. Ugh. I will though. emoticon

way to go doing a little "autumn cleaning" :)

be sure to listen to your body tomorrow and take a rest day - I'm thinking you might just be a little tiny bit sore, but way to work those muscles emoticon

Way to go on all the housework stuff! I really hope the forest fires get taken care of soon. That can be scary. I would have thought power washing was cardio. So you'll notice how many times I've ever done that. Way to go!

You just reminded me of how much my garage needs to be cleaned out! But I do have the basement to get through first!

I know you are happy to get that out of the way as that is usually a big chore and it's cardio! All that lifting pushing pulling and moving stuff. Plus with the smoke in the air! You are braver that I! Great job!
