I have to admit, I'm proud of myself and my eating choices this week. I've been making healthy decisions and making good food for myself and my family which they've liked so far. The recipes here have been great! We haven't had a meal with over 10 grams of fat or over 500 calories all week and my fridge is stocked with fruits, veggies, and lite or nonfat everything plus healthy snacks for my kids...a good start!
The trouble I'm running into is staying active. My back pain is REALLY getting to me, even just trying to walk so it's been frustrating. I've been trying to find exercises that I can do to help strengthen my core which I hear might be able to help. I really want to get moving more but it's incredibly difficult to do it when being on my feet hurts my back. I haven't had any accidents or injuries, just lots of weight and a large chest on top of it which has caused some pain or discomfort even before I was this big. :( I'm not gonna give up though...just needed to vent a bit.

Sounds like you're doing great and are on a good path. I'm sorry to hear that your back pain is preventing you from being as active as you'd like, but check out Spark's fitness section. They might have some workouts or videos that promote the core and back which might help you. Also, Lillie is right. It is a lot about what you eat so you've got that part mastered. Keep pushing forward!

Way to go on the food! That really is a big deal!

As far as the physical activity goes, I agree with Lillie, just try to do something. Even 10 minutes a day is much better than nothing. Do you have a gym membership? If so, check out the arm ergometer (It's like a bike, but for your arms!) or a recumbent bike. Those can be two good cardio options for you if being on your feet is difficult. If you don't hav a gym membership, find things you can do while sitting down. Get in an arms workout with some weights or something. I am sure you will find something that accomodates your needs and lets you get active!

You can do this! You are making a difference! You will make it throuhg, and you are already showing progress in the way you are thinking and living. Keep up the good work!

First ~ good going on the food choice side. As Lillie mentioned, what you're eating is a huge part of the plan.

As for the activity level, you could also try mixing in some activities that won't require as much standing. For instance, when sitting you could grab some light wts (does not even have to be exercise wts...cans of food will do...or even no wts at the beginning)....grab some wts, and make punching motions of lift them up and down for 10 minutes or so. Doing running motions as you sit works too. You could do them almost any time too...working...at home watching the television.

Of course, if you can, try doing some standing exercise. That way you can slowly build up some endurance...and as you gain (oops...poor choice of words...let me rephrase that!)....as you become more used to the exercises and drop some weight, you'll also hopefully reduce some of the stress on your back. Then you can gradually increase the exercise time.

By the way, if you're just hopping back into the exercise regime...a simple core exercise while standing could be as simple as some balance exercises. For instance, standing straight while balancing on one leg for a minute or so. Then the other leg. Sounds easy at first...but it takes some core muscles!

Keep at it...you'll get there :)

    Edited to say:
After I posted this I saw how long and rambly it was....sorry. I kinda am talky.

That's a good point Lillie. We tend to be too hard on ourselves for our failings and don't pat ourselves on the back enough for little victories. Thanks for the reminder!

Well, the biggest part of weight loss IS what you eat. For now, do what you can as far as being active-- aim for 10 minutes of SOMETHING daily. I am sure you can do that... just 1 minutes of dancing around with your kids, even. You will drop some weight and start to feel better and perhaps then you can up the activity level. Don't give yourself a hard time for what you CANT do.... praise yourself for what you DO.
