Slapped by Spark once again…….

Thursday, October 06, 2011

When I first started with Spark I found those wonderful “tests” that give you an indication of how fit you are. You know the ones I am talking about…..The Crunch test, The Push-up test, and The 3 minute step test….. I made them part of my favorites with the intension of seeing just where I stand in terms of fitness…..One day……

Now that I am back on Spark, I have been going to the gym regularly, for about a month. When I go to the gym I strictly do Cardio, Why you ask? Well, when I first got on Spark I walked off about 30-35 pounds…..I have this thought that I need to be under 200 pounds before I start any kind of weight training etc. Yeah, yeah, I know those guys on the Biggest Loser start out lifting weights right away…..I will give that some thought. Now back the story…….

Since I was recently bragging on my last Blog about how I punished the elliptical machine, I thought it was time to try one of these fitness tests. Hmm, wonder which one I picked??? Sure, the step test of course! Why not, try the step test…..might as well do the one that I think I can kick ass on, right? I mean I have been to the gym regularly and I feel as if I am 90% back to the fitness I was when I left…...

So, returning from the gym this morning, I got out everything needed to perform the Step test:
12 inch high box to step on, Check!
Free Metronome provided via a Spark link, Check!
Stopwatch, Check!

The test when off without a hitch, I started out pumping away to the ticking of the metronome. When I got about half way through the three minutes I noticed I started feeling a little tight in the calf’s, Push on I thought…..After completing the test, I quickly found my pulse on my neck, it was that bulging artery, I think it is called the carotid artery….I have spent enough time in the hospital….you would think I should know what the artery in my neck was called…….Well I found something that was pulsing so I started counting……Ok, now time to see what the results are I thought smugly. Let’s see, the charts are right here……Ah, yes found them!

What!??! Below average within my age group? Come on! Really?

Damn you Spark for giving me some honest feedback! I want a “do over”……next month!

I followed my friend Bobbi over here and enjoyed your writing so much that I stayed to read your main story. Hope you don't mind if I add you as a friend, even though I'm a chick, lol.

Can't say that I like your choice of team, though. emoticon

GOOD story! At least you DID the test...I'm still in the 'thinking about it' mode...I'm pretty consistent about getting in my 10,000 steps per day...but I seriously...I mean SERIOUSLY need to tackle a few weights now and then. I'm NOT liking the arm waving flags I'm starting to see develop....getting old is a biatch...and I'm going to fight it tooth and nail. Unfortunately my girlfriends don't play on a level playing field..with all the nips, tucks, and strange add ons they have gotten over the years...it's sometimes hard to think of them bragging about the NATURAL lifestyle they persue??!!?? emoticon

Or...is that the little green envy dragon on my shoulder whispering in my ear...you too could look like a NATURAL? gal...insert $25,000! emoticon

I also noticed that if I track things, sometimes just knowing about them is enough to get motivated!

I like this positive-fun attitude you show!
I should make these tests, too!

LOL SO glad to know I'm not the only one who gets humbled by those. I'm always in trouble when I do them, "just to see if I can still" and then not only have I back slid I landed butt first in the mud and got hosed in the process.

Thanks for reminding me I need to do that again this week!!

Now you have a baseline to measure yourself against next month to see how much progress you've made.
