I am not the most consistent blogger, but I find that writing a note often puts things into focus.

I have to say that during paddle season, I have one predominant focus... paddling. We had a terrific year on my team, placing first or second for women's teams in all of the races we attended. This is a first for us, and I attribute it to an increased commitment by everyone on the team. In the summer, I coach and practice a lot. I do a lot of hiking, and swimming. I get out on my kayak. I don't always eat perfectly, and sometimes I drink a little too much (there are a lot of cals in a glass of wine on the deck!). I don't track, then get to it once the routine solidifies in the fall.

So here I am. I have been reading my Spark email articles, but am back to tracking fitness. I have implemented a few small goals. My goal is to move every day. If I can't get to the gym or a class, I have committed to do a hike (up a mountain, lots of hills) or go for a 30 minute run. I had a very busy week with the kids last week, so that meant running in the dark at 6:00 am. I am also loosely tracking my weight watchers points during the week, so that I don't get way out of hand. Funny, the batteries in my scale are out, and I think that may be a good thing. It has meant that I'm not obsessing over the little.2 of a lb up or down. I am more aware of how I feel, which I am finding is far more important.

I have met someone. Cam motivates me because he is a runner. I have added that into my exercise routine, so that I can enjoy more time with him. It's incredible what a motivation you have to go on when there is another body beside you. His pace is naturally faster than mine, so I have to work to keep up.

I am getting back into yoga, and have added once per week into my schedule so that I can stretch out and re-balance my mind.

As far as eating goes, I am also trying to focus on nutrient dense foods. I am back to asking myself what a specific food will do for my body. Will it give me protein for my muscles. Will it be anti carcinogenic, or help boost my immune system? Will it give me vitamins and minerals? I try to steer clear of the foods that clearly will have no benefit, or those that will be a detriment. I am enjoying many things. Had the best quiche last night, just loaded with caramelized onions, broccoli, mushrooms, peppers and sun-dried tomatoes. Rather than using cream, I used milk, and a few extra egg whites.

I am trying to take care of myself because I feel that it will give me a more full life. I love feeling vibrant and kind to self. I love being a better partner and Mom as a result of being a healthy, happy person. I need the stress management this brings to my very hectic career and financial worries. This is all good stuff!
