I have to say I read the New York Times article and was very depressed.
I am not sure I have the will power to go completely plant-based in my diet but I do think that there is a lot to be said for it. There is a tri-athlete named Brendan Brasier (think I have that right--someone more in the know will correct me) who authored a book called The Thrive Diet and I believe that his approach is similar to the one you cite.
