Dear Spark People and Spark Friends:
I have to write to let you know how amazed I am at this journey of weight loss. Back in the middle of July, 2011, I accidentally discovered SP by adding the food and exercise app to my phone and then one day there I was on my home computer and discovered the wonderful albeit overwhelming world of Spark People! I had the app on my phone for a couple months but was in total oblivion to the existence of this wonderful website. It took awhile for me to get it figured out: goal weight, tracking fitness, tracking nutrition, sending goodies, joining teams, adding friends but once I got the hang of it, there was no looking back.
I would go for a brisk walk for 20 minutes and want to track my exercise; I would eat a bunch of grapes as a snack and felt the need to track this. I made a couple of really good Spark Friends who live fairly close by, I vented about my rotten work days, I shared my one pound loss, my five pound loss, my Non Scale Victories and gradually, over time, here I am seven months later and 28 pounds lighter and I really am amazed at this journey.
Since Christmas I have received so many compliments on my weight loss, my appearance, my size, and yes, today I was even called skinny. Believe me, "skinny" is not the look I have been going for but that is how people view me compared to the old me. It feels really really good to have people notice the change in my body size, my body tone and my overall well being. I am proud of how far I've come and I am happy with how relatively easy of a journey it's been.
And I really have Spark People to thank for my wonderful success. Thanks to all of you at SP, I know how to do strength training and actually enjoy it now, thanks to SP I have walked/jogged a 5k virtual race, thanks to SP I know how to eat a balanced, healthy diet, thanks to SP I have made some good friends and learned a lot about what I am putting in my body and what I am expelling from my body (calorie wise!).
At first I was logging onto SP kind of secretly without my family really being aware of what I was doing behind the closed door of the computer room. I felt silly tracking my food, tracking my exercise, blogging, joining teams, adding Spark Friends etc. But over time, when I felt the success from this website, I became more confident about sharing this magical site, I was not hiding behind closed doors to track stuff, I was sharing information I learned with my daughter and people around me were slowly starting to notice the change in me.
Now, I have taken a 180 degree turn. I gush about SparkPeople.com every chance I get. A co- worker or friend will ask me "Wendy, what diet are you on?" "Wendy, how did you lose so much weight?" and on and on.....and I simply tell them it's switching up my lifestyle, eating more fruits and veggies, exercising regularly, not depriving myself of anything and I tell them SparkPeople.com was INSTRUMENTAL in my weight loss. I have now even printed off some cards to give to people so they remember the website.
I look back to last summer and look at myself now and I am truly amazed at the wonderful changes I have made. It's been an empowering process. And it started with a 10 minute Coach Nicole video here and there and started with choosing a basket of cherries from the fruit stand across the street as a snack rather than my favoured jelly beans and I have worked up to where I enjoy 40 minutes or more on the elliptical or where I can actually run more than 3 minutes without feeling like I'm going to die and to where I have made a salad or a heaping serving of veggies part of supper daily.
So, I just wanted to thank you, Spark Friends and you, SparkPeople.com for giving me the tools to do what I needed to to lose all my extra pounds, to get in great shape and to make healthy nutrition choices. Thank you very much!
