The vacation 4 no more!

Wednesday, March 21, 2012

My family equates travel with eating. I always did as well. You have heard of the freshman 15, well it was always the travel 4 with me. One week of travel = 4 pounds. The formula never failed.

My husband, myself and are twin sons traveled to Phoenix to visit my friend and her husband.
While on the trip we found ourselves in the Rock Springs Cafe, world famous for pies, twice. Of course, my family indulged in the house specialty. In Sedona they found a mall that serves incredible malts. On one of our last days the boys, now young men in their twenties, wanted to eat at the Cheesecake Factory. You can guess what they all ate their. I am from Vancouver B.C. and we don't have a Cheesecake Factory (lucky for me). My family ate there on our last trip together in San Francisco. I was shocked when I found they now had a Skinnylicious menu that I could order from. The beer, liquor, wine is all cheaper in the U.S. and I saw plenty of Canadian snowbirds with lots of beer bellies!

To make a long story short I didn't drink alcohol or indulge in any sweets. Oh, I confess, I had a small taste (spoonful) to try the desserts. My friend made me chicken and salmon and salads to keep me on track. I boarded the plane with protein bars to stave off hunger. Voila! I actually and unbelievably to me shed 2 pounds on holiday. It is really true, nothing tastes quite as good as thin feels. Best of all, I didn't feel deprived or angry that I couldn't indulge. Those feelings definitely would have been there in the past. Yeah!
