South Beach

For the first time ever, I am doing a restrictive diet, the South Beach Diet. I read the whole book yesterday and thought I'd give it a try. Had to do some serious shopping and was surprised my debit card went through because I don't buy that many veggies usually! They have a fraud tracker on it that stops transactions that don't fit your spending pattern:) Let me know if any of you have had some success on the SB

    I haven't done South Beach, but I did Atkins several years ago. I lost a lot of weight pretty fast on it and then plateaued. The main things I remember were feeling gross from eating so much fat (something I think South Beach minimizes), having seriously bad breath all the time, and having dark green (almost black) stool that was hard and infrequent. Overall, I felt like all of these were signs that my body was not taking well to the diet. Maybe it would have improved when I advanced to the phases that allowed me to eat more veggies and fruits, but those weren't allowed much in the initial phases.

    I'm not sure if South Beach works the same way as Atkins in trying to force your body int ketosis (starvation mode), but the main problem with ketosis is there is no room for cheating or slip-ups AT ALL. The moment you go over on your carbs and send your body out of ketosis, you pretty much have to start all over again to get back there, which takes about three days.
