Ginger's eight week check up with the surgical vet is tomorrow. She is driving us crazy since she thinks she is 100% recovered. I hope the vet says she hasn't done any damage to the work he did. She still limps sometimes. We think that is due to her trying to run and jump. When she gets excited she twirls like the Tasmanian Devil.

My granddaughter Maria is seven months old and she is a joy most of the time. She has her little hissy fits now and then, but babies are allowed to be fussy. I am going to be learning Brazilian Portuguese. They bought her a DVD from a Brazilian children's TV series titled "XuXa." Pretty soon I'll be able to sing the hokey pokey song in a new language. Of course I'll be singing out of tune. emoticon

I also bought a set of CD's that guarantee I'll be able to converse in my new language in ten days after just eight thirty minute lessons. When I listened to the sales pitch on the internet for the language courses I thought there were ten lessons. We'll see if it works for me.

As a child I was a sight reader and also tone deaf according to an elementary chorus teacher so learning sounds was never easy for me. I have taken courses in Spanish and German. I've never really learned how to converse in either of those languages.

I was out watering my tomato plants and found a wasp nest under a handle of the blue tub. DH sprayed the wasps. I hope they are all dead. They flew out at me when some of the water hit them. My tomatoes grew in the pots from seeds of the Roma tomatoes we had last year. They are quite healthy without any effort from me and until recently were only being watered when it rains.

There is also a very healthy marigold plant ready to bloom in one tub that grew from some seeds I scattered last fall. All of my basil is from seeds I dropped into several pots from last year's plants. My oregano reseeded by itself into two other pots. I love that oregano comes back every year. My thyme plant is beautiful and the mint is doing very well. Something is eating the little red cabbage plants my friend Cheryl gave me. I really need to get the rest of our plants potted or in the ground. at least the cabbage hasn't died. I gave My DIL lots of rooted baby "spider" plants. I also gave her the very neglected original plant. She also wants some cuttings of Golden Pothos and I have plenty of that.

I woke up this morning to a very loud tree frog croaking. Ginger was whining for me to get up, but I told her to go back to sleep and I managed to doze off for about twenty minutes. I took her out and it was very foggy. We are still having the invasion of millipedes falling in the pool at night. Those little things can live for a long time under water. It is SO VERY gross emptying the pool vac bag. Yuk!

I too hope Ginger's vet visit went well. I'm jealous of all the fruit and herb growing...we cannot grow much here.
We were tempted to plant some annuals but I'm glad we didn't since it's snowing like crazy here right now. A typical Memorial Day in Wyoming....

Can you believe we are just now getting things planted? Which means I went out and bought plants instead of using seed. We decided to do a raised bed this year and hubby just got it constructed and filled with dirt yesterday!

Hi hon! I don't know how different Brazilian Portuguese is from Portuguese Portuguese (try saying that three times fast, lol) but here's a freebie website:

The language practice thing-ies on the BBC are wonderful, and totally free. I studied five years of French, and two years of Spanish. I'm now fluent in 'Je ne parles pas francais' and 'Yo no comprendo espanol.' emoticon

Re wasps / hornet: I always used to wait till nighttime. They've all returned to the nest by that time and they can't see in the dark. The perfect time to spray or smoke or whatever your plan of action is.
p.s. My kids were just young enough to enjoy Xuxa when they broadcast an American version of her show. Not in the same league as Sesame Street, but it was okay, to my mind, as kids' programs go...
