I have this habit of setting awesome goals and then either giving up on them, forgetting about them, or letting something get in the way of them. Sometimes it's something unavoidable like surgery or injury but still, things get in the way. I gave up on running because it really hurts my deformed feet and ankles (surgery, extra bones, fallen arches, arthritis...you name it) and generally makes life miserable. I find that I really enjoy just walking though. Walking is easy, it's something I can do for a long time, and that comes naturally to me. After all, I've been doing it for about 26 years now, and it's something that I can do with a baby strapped to my chest. I've heard so many people say that walking is one of the best exercises they did to loose weight. So, that in mind I tried to set a (hopefully) realistic long term walking goal for myself. My new fitness dream is to walk a half marathon. This one in fact.

The Nashville Women's Half Marathon As it happens it's two days after my birthday so I know what I want this year. No guessing for Hubby! My mom has already agreed to do it with me and I hope I can recruit some others as well. (though I'm not hopeful, all the women I know have multiple small children) I have roughly 22 weeks to get in gear and train. I have found a training schedule I think I can stick to.

If anyone out there would like to join me please come! I'm still trying to work up the nerve to really commit to it and spend the $90 for registration so if anyone out there would like to help hold me to this, please do! Do you think I have to wear pink? I don't do pink.

Hi Kate! Great Goal! I think you can do this, I was looking at your training I think I might be able to do it! I can't come to Tenn for the race but I think I can do the training. I have never walked 13 miles but I have walked 10 miles before routinely and that is how I took off my first 40 pounds that first year of this journey was walking. I just got my new walking /running shoes.

As for pink is that a requirement is that the shirt color for the race? You probably could wear any color you want for the race, those people posed for the add in the race shirt. What my friend Lisa does as she trains ( she runs and has ever since she started training for races ) is every race she runs she gets a new running outfit for the race, she buys herself one ) so that could be your gift to yourself to motivate yourself for the race. Just an idea it is fun to do that like when we were kids the thought that new shoes could make you go faster.

I just read on your blog ( your real blog that you are on your way to the beach to meet your family ) have fun and be safe, that tropical storm Barrel is on her way it is hitting Jacksonville today and then going up the coast shouldn't be too strong of winds by the time she hits you all but will bring wind and RAIN! Big hugs !
