It's All About Choices

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results - Albert Einstein
If you keep on doing what you've always done, you'll keep on getting what you've always got - W.L. Bateman
How's that workin' for ya? - Dr. Phil

I was reminded of these quotes today as I contemplated what to do. My husband and I had stayed up way, way too late last night and were pretty tired this morning. That tiredness didn't dissipate as the day went on; in fact, it got worse.

In the old, pre-SP days, I would have used my tiredness as a reason (read: excuse) not to exercise or watch what I ate. I guess it was a way to self-sooth. I'd easily let myself off the hook and not expect too much of myself.

But as I thought about it, each day I can either move closer to my goals or further away. The choices are mine to make. And if I keep making the same choices I made in the past, I'll stay rooted where I am. Is that what I want for myself?

So I planned and tracked all my food and I'm out the door soon for a walk. Even though I was starting to let this day go downhill this morning, I did manage to turn it around. Even though breakfast included an Oreo and some veggie chips (Did I just admit that?) emoticon I salvaged the rest of my meals and snacks and fit in my 6 fruits and vegetables while staying within range for calories and fat.

Thank you, SP and all my Spark Friends, for helping me to learn how to emoticon and think before I go down the wrong road. Today could have taken me away from my goals but it's now taking me closer. It feels good.

Today is a gift. Use it wisely - Eleanor Roosevelt

Good for you!!! You changed what was a bad start into a good day. I too find that at times its hard to get going in the right direction - especially if I'm tired. Exercise is a big one for me to get going on. But once I do I feel so much better afterward. Great job!!! emoticon

Well done. Love the fact that you stayed on track and optimistic. Good for you. Some days you just don't want to do anything and give yourself a 'day off' that day off usually turns into a week and you are back to where you began again. Every day counts and this was a nice reminder how good you can feel when you stick with your goals and push yourself on.

What a great blog! Making good choices is just that, choices. Choosing to make the ones that get you closer to your goals instead of choosing the bad habits is not always easy. But it is always rewarding. emoticon emoticon

    great blog!

I agree some days you just don't want to but.... you make yourself do that first thing that you know is right and then all of a sudden you do want to make the right choices for the day.

Just like my exercises - really don't want to do them - force myself to start them but once I'm started I'm glad I did. I do them all and the feeling of accomplishment when finished is much better than the feeling I had before i started them.

It's taking that first small step each day that counts - just think of it I'll just do this and then it all falls into place for the rest of the day.
