Rockin' the Slave Leia Bikini!

Monday, September 10, 2012

So it has taken a good 16 years. 16 years until I've made it to a point where I feel comfortable with my body.
I just went to a Star Wars Convention where I wore Slave Leia for the 3rd time, and I've never felt more comfortable! 2 years ago I brought the outfit with me but wasn't sure I wanted to wear it. My husband persuaded me, however, and I got a few pictures. I certainly didn't feel like I was the skinniest or most toned of the bunch.

This time, I was ready and excited to wear it! It's amazing how much confidence losing 15 pounds and an airbrush tan can give you! I wore the bikini 2 days of the 4-day Convention. Now, there are a TON of girls who wear this bikini at Star Wars Conventions, and there's even a giant group picture. I believe there were about 28-35 of us in the group picture. After the photo shoot, I happened to be talking to another fan, wearing a different outfit, and he recognized me from the day before in the group pic! He asked, "Hey, were you that awesome Slave Leia in the group picture yesterday?" I said I definitely was in the group pic and I guess that was me. Out of curiosity, I then asked him what made me so "awesome." He shyly looked down and said, "Because you're pretty..." It was so sweet! Then he asked another question, "Are you an athlete?"
Now, this floored me. Growing up, I've always been not great in gym, always second-to-last picked for teams, the least flexible person I know. So I had to really wrap my brain around to consider myself an athlete. But then I thought, I run 26 miles/week, do weight-training 2x per week, eat right, drink lots of water..."Yes! I guess I am!"
"It shows," He replied.
That made my whole year :)
