Over 40 Transformation

Oct, 2011 – Oct, 2012 My one year anniversary of taking my life back.
For too many years, I was always thinking about losing weight and getting in shape but never was willing to make the long-term sacrifices to do so. I let work, children and life in general take priority over my general well being. I avoided mirrors but when I would catch my reflection, I would often do a double-take, wondering, "Who is that overweight woman looking at me?" I was letting my life control me, rather than controlling my life.
In July, 2008, I found Sparkpeople and put forth, what I thought at the time, was 100% effort. I wanted to be fit by 40 and set a path to finally lose the weight once and for all. I didn’t make that happen. I did lose some weight and felt better about myself. But then, again, major changes at my job all but made it impossible for me to continue on. I just did not have the mental capabilities to continue. I stopped & started over and over from 2009 all the way to Oct, 2011.
My trigger moment happened in Sept of last year. We purchased a boat. Something so very small but powerful to me. We had spent the summer looking for a boat of our own and also watching all the boats out on Lake Michigan - - the fit, beautiful people were everywhere. Once the purchase was made, reality set in and I was NOT going to be the fat girl in a tankini, hiding under clothes on a boat that would be seen by many. I put a plan in action and began in October of 2011. I had it in my mind at the time that 90 days later, I would be in a good place, fit and healthy as this was what had happened in the years before. While I progressed and achieved great results, I was finding that this was going to be way harder than it was in the past. My body was fighting me. However, I continued on and by this past summer I was in a very good place. Every week, my body got smaller, my muscles had a little more definition and my confidence became stronger. I felt great!
1 year later:
Size 12/14 to a 4 and even a couple 2’s
30lbs gone for good
27.5 inches gone for good
Back fat gone
Cottage cheese on legs gone
Stretch marks almost gone.
This year I have done things I either have not ever done or done for a long time.
Ran a 5k
Did a warrior dash
Ball roomed danced.
Learned how to kneeboard and wakeboard
Rock wall climbed
Took 2 water aerobic classes
Completed 4 fitness programs
Walked more than I can remember in a long time.
FUTURE FITNESS PLANS
My goal is to continue building muscle in order to really tone and lean down. Though I have no desire to enter a fitness competition, I want to look like I could. I know I still have a long road to travel, but I'm dedicated to reaching that goal. I have finally found the desire and dedication to be fit and healthy – not just for today but for life.
