I came, ITRI and I Finished

Tuesday, October 23, 2012

On Sunday, October 23, 2012 at 7:30am I participated in my 2nd Olympic Triathlon. For those who do not know; In June 2012 I was timed out of the swim portion during my 1st Olympic Triathlon. So participating in this triathlon was emotional as well as physically challenging.

Race Day
The TRI was about 2 hours and 15 minutes from my house; so I decided to drive up the morning of. I arrived just in time. To my surprise the event had less than 150 participates’. It was like Déjà Vu, I was one of the last ones in the water again. There were only a few kayak and boats monitoring the swimmers, which made me very nervous. It was a wetsuit legal swim so I took some comfort in that. My goal was not to be last one out of the water. About 500 meters out I finally relaxed and tried to incorporate the tips my Coach and Husband gave. I completed the swim in 39 minutes, I was so happy. When I reached the transition area there were bikes still on the racks; I wasn’t the last one out is all I could think of.

But when I got on my bike, I am literally the only one on the course; I didn’t see or pass any cyclist until around the 6th or 7th miles then half way though I passed another one and then another one. Then It was time to finally run; I completed my run in 57 minutes.

Overall I was very delighted with my performance…I did not place nor did I come close. I usually finish most of my events in the upper 50%. This time I finished 109 out of 133 and couldn’t be happier. Next Triathlon event IRONMAN New Orleans 70.3 in April 2013; wish me luck.
