"What a Waste-My Fast for Lent"

Sunday, February 17, 2013

Today's sermon from Dr. Cosby was entitled, "What a Waste: Mark 14:1-10 KJV; John 12:1-11 NLT; John 17:12 KJV; Deuteronomy 15:1-11 NLT; John 19:38-40 NLT and Matthew 26:12 TEV.

Pastor preached about how Mary taking the time to anoint Jesus' days prior to His crucifixion was not a waste, although Judas strongly disagreed. Judas was annoyed by this act because the value of the perfume Mary used could have been sold and the money could have been used to help the poor. In all actuality Judas did not care about the poor, his motives were selfish (John 12:6 NLT - "Not that he [Judas] cared for the poor-he was a thief who was in charge of the disciples funds, and he often took some for his own use.") Jesus defended her and replied, "leave her alone. She did it in preparation for my burial. You will always have the poor among you, but I will not be here with you much longer." [John 12:7-8 NLT]

According to Pastor, this sacrifice by Mary "was wonderful in its ORIGINALITY (because it was sincere worship), EXTRAVAGANCE and TIMING." When we worship it refuels us to handle the challenges of life that we must face each week. Worship reminds us to be thankful for what we have received and for what we have escaped through God's grace and mercy.

The sermon ended with the focus on whatever we do for the Lord in worship and service is not a waste. As believers it's important for us to worship, pray and don't take the time that we have for granted. Whatever God has called us to do, we are to DO IT RIGHT NOW!

Which brings me to the whole point of this blog. Over the course of the past year and especially the past few weeks, I have been wasting soooooo much of my time, energy and talent casting my pearls among "mice" (folks who claim they need help but are really satisfied with their current state and/or folks who must be constantly reminded to do what they *know* they should be doing). I have been trying to help them and hold them accountable but all that has happened is that I've become more frustrated with the inequitable workload, short-tempered by the inconsistencies and have lost focus on the more meaningful things in life.

The older I get and the more funerals that I attend, I realize how precious and fleeting time/life is...I just don't have another nanosecond to waste. So with that being said (although I know I'm a little late), for Lent I'm giving up wasting time and casting my pearls among "mice." I CANNOT help those who don't want to first help themselves. I will continue to pray for them but it's time for me to refuel and take care of the more meaningful things that I've been called to do and and get them done RIGHT NOW!

"So, let’s not look over our shoulders to see what others are doing or not doing. Look at how God may be able to use you in His kingdom today. He has gifted you just as He has pleased." —C. P. Hia

"Lord, lead me today as You see best.
Use the gifts You have given me to encourage others on their journey.
Help me not to compare myself with others [and to be overly concerned with the "mice"]
but to be content with who You have made me to be [and what You have given me to do]." ~Our Daily Bread 2/17/13

Great blog! It's so easy for us to get so wrapped up in trying to help people who aren't really serious about change or helping themselves, that we don't have the energy or time to take care of ourselves or help those who will really benefit from it.

Keep the faith! Keep pressing forward! God bless!

May you make the most of your time and be accountable for yourself and not worry about what others may or may not be doing. Good blog. All the best.

    Amen! emoticon

It's a must to stay in line with what God wants us to do so that we won't be treading water and lose valuable time. I have determined to ask The Lord daily what He has ordained for my days. Times when I go off course I'm unsettled but I get my baring and get back on course. It's too many important things He must do through us for we are His Voice and Ambassador and there's a lot more people who need to come into the Kingdom. Thank you for sharing such a stirring Word. May you be empowered to Prosper in every way as you walk the path He has destined for you!
    Many Blessings!

Wow! We share our Lent fasting plan.
I did not give up meat, sweets, or most things people usually give up.
I gave up on undue stress, which was, in part, due to the "mice" within my vicinity.

I give their issues to God and instructed them to do the same.
"A drowning man can't save anyone." ~ I have to swim in order to save others; but if they resist, they'll bring me down.

    Do YOU my sister!

AMEN SIS!! Often times when GOD gives us a word or a revelation, we want to share. We want to round up the mice and bring them into the promised land, but I've learned (am learning), EAGLES soar, Mice scurry around depositing feces (their drama, their rhectoric, their would-of should-of could-of's) wherever they go. Always studying, but never able to arrive at full knowledge. I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before. Let the DEAD bury their DEAD. We have much more LIFE to LIVE...
