In the Swim of Things

Tuesday, February 19, 2013

I went on a road trip last weekend to visit my Aunt Charlotte and I happened to mention to her that I needed to go to buy a couple of bathing suits for an upcoming cruise to Hawaii. My old bathing suit is now at least 3 sizes too big. My aunt is 93 years old but for years worked in high-end retail and has impeccable taste.

She said, " Don't bother. Several years ago, I bought two beautiful bathing suits and never wore them because I became allergic to chlorine in swimming pools. They are just sitting in a suitcase." My first response was, "Well I can try them on but there is no way on earth I will fit into them. You are much slimmer than me!" You have to know and I am sure can empathize that bathing suit shopping for me has always been an utter nightmare. The last time, I fit into a huge size and had to try on multiple suits before I found the only flattering one. So, you can understand that I would be skeptical that I would fit my aunt's.

I tried both suits on. They were a size 12 and looked absolutely fabulous. I was prancing about like a show pony. My aunt was thrilled! These suits were bothering her because she lives in a nursing home and could not give them to some residents without making the others jealous.

I still am shaking my head that something spontaneously could fit me and look good. Wow, I can remember tearfully buying clothes no matter what they looked like just because they were the only things I could fit into in the store

This NSV (non-scale reward) came at a particularly good time. I am up 7 pounds and stuck there on a lonely plateau. However, obviously all the exercise I do has improved my shape greatly so what a boost to my spirits. Hurrah! emoticon

P.S. I was going to spend my $200.00 I got for my birthday on swim wear. Now, I have mad money for the cruise to buy what I please with it!

P.S. It must be Sparkpeople karma because all the bargain shopping I did in the US seemed to center around fitness. I bought runners and workout out t-shirt at bargain prices! LOL

Are you remembering that fat per volume weighs less than muscle?
Scales do not recognize the difference between bone - water - fat - muscle....
a Scales only function is to measure the gravitational pull of what is placed on the scale.

You see its not always about the weight on the scale but how you look and feel!! Keep it up a plateau can not last forever if you are committed to trying new things and pushing forwards. Enjoy the cruise relax and swim in your new fabulous swim wear!!

That's fabulous! Slowly, how you see yourself will conform to where you are and where you want to be. It sure is hard to stop seeing ourselves in our "before" bodies. Hope you have a great time on your cruise!

Congratulations. The absolute nightmare of trying on swimsuits became a reward. That's what I call progress.
