Hi All!

I'm back from Maui and boy what a trip. I've been asked several times since I came home to describe my experience. It's very hard to put into words without sounding all "new age" and spiritual. So I'll totally understand if you don't want to read this post but I'll do my best to describe what took place on this life changing trip.

Now I've been to a retreat before so I sort of had an idea what I was in for but boy I had no idea I would be affected so deeply. I'm one of those people when you meet me you think I have it all together. I'm happy, always have a smile on my face and will tell you everything is "fantastic". I really do say that. A lot of people know the surface Kelly but hardly anyone knows the true me. So this retreat was really outside my comfort zone but I loved every second of it.

We got to Maui on Friday and had a day to get adjusted. We were so exhausted from flying all day that we called it an early night. I don't know what you've heard but eating vegan isn't easy there. The restaurant we chose for dinner (Zippy's - I wouldn't recommend going there EVER!) had one vegetarian dish. It was a tofu veggie burger. I was so hungry that I didn't care and scarfed it down in about 10 seconds. It was like rubber and horrible. We went back to the hotel and crashed quickly. The next morning I got up like a good girl and went to the gym and pushed out 45 minutes on the elliptical in the 70-80% HR range then did some ab work. I was there for about an hour 15 minutes. Then I went and sat in the lobby and had some breakfast and drank some tea while I checked email and got on Facebook. By the time my girlfriend came down it was only 7am there. WOW that time difference! We decided to go to World Whale Day for the day before we headed to the resort. We had a blast. I'm a bracelet junkie and found several hand crafted items that I had to bring home. There was a wonderful vegan café there so we had lunch before heading to the resort. It was called Down to Earth. You should try it if you are ever in Maui. We walked by the water, took some pictures then decided to get on the road.

Getting to the resort was quite the adventure. We went to this look out and watch some surfers for a while then asked Siri for directions. Boy that chick is crazy. She sent us down some dirt road that had about 100 TVs littered all along the road. We saw an amazing rainbow though. LOL It reminded me of the roads my husband made me swear to never go down because you have no idea what is there. Long story short we made it out and survived laughing the whole way. We made it to the resort and checked into our rooms. LOVELY! We stayed at Lumeria Maui. www.lumeriamaui.com/ It is a lovely place. the experience there was amazing.

We didn't know it but we had our first yoga practice Saturday night. We met Jennifer Pastiloff in the lobby and she greeted us like long lost friends. She told us to meet her in the yoga room at 5:15pm and bring your journals. Oh boy! It's starting. I don't write anything ever! I started to get a bit anxious. We got dressed and made our way to the yoga room. There were also two others there so we met Jane and Emilie. They were a mother/daughter pair there for the retreat. Loved them right off the bat. The four of us got our stuff together and put down mats in the yoga room in the back row in the corner out of anyone's line of sight (or so we thought). All together there were 18 women at this retreat. All of them lovely in their own way.

So what did we do on this retreat? Believe it or not we did very little yoga. This was more of an internal exercise than external. We wrote, shared, cried, laughed, danced (yes this white girls shook her booty) and did a little yoga. what I can tell you is that I didn't really think I had anything to work through but I was mistaken. The topics that were discussed all directly affected me and were life changing. One of the exercises was "5 Most Beautiful Things". At any moment she would call that out and we were to list 5MBT of that moment. It is a practice I do a few times a day especially when the going gets tough. If you can find 5 positive things in a negative situation it doesn't seem so bad.

One of the most powerful exercises was the following writing: What people say about me is........ What I say about me is....... The truth about me is...... This was incredible to see how I think of myself and the script that constantly plays in my head throughout the day. That was the first night!

We talked about fear, what's holding you back, what is it you really want to do, etc. I can't possibly go through all the exercise we did so this is just a brief glimpse.

What changes have I made since coming home? I've removed several people from my Facebook and made it a positive place. I've subscribed to several positive people and get reaffirmation every day on my feed. I've started doing things for me. I haven't worked out February 15. Yes, you read that right. And I've lost 5 lbs...how the heck does that happen? Well you might say my body is healing and loving the rest. Every day I do yoga, meditate and journal. I've decided to attend yoga teacher training in the Fall. I've already filled out my application and am ready to go. I have several avenues I would like to go so we will see what happens after next February when I "graduate". I made 17 new friends that I will have for life. I know that if I need anything any one of them are a call, text or message away and they all know the same about me.

I highly suggest you check out Jennifer Pastiloff on Facebook and at her blog. She is an amazing writer and a genuine person. There is nothing fake about her. If you are able to attend one of her Manifestation Workshops or Retreats I HIGHLY recommend you take a leap and sign up. It will be the most powerful thing you ever do for yourself. Do you have to be good at yoga? HECK NO! Like I said we didn't do much yoga at all. Do you need to be a good writer? HECK NO! I haven't written since high school and now write every day.

    Wow, Kelly, that sounds just amazing!!! And I am SO excited for you to start your yoga teacher training!!!!!!!!!! OMG!!! I want to hear about it as you go, please. It's slightly different, but I'm just finishing up Teacher teacher training (getting my M.Ed.), and will be done May 1st. Being a teacher, of anything, I think is so awesome...and you will DEFINTELY make a marvelous one!!!

    Kelly sounds like you had an incredible experience. Since you were such a super person before, I can't imagine much improvement. Good luck on your yoga teacher training.

    Kelly, I'm so happy that you had a good time. It really does sound like a life-changing experience! I look forward to hearing all about yoga teacher training.... from what I have read on your blogs, I think you would be an EXCELLENT yoga teacher! Heck, if you were teaching, I might even be persuaded to take a class! :D
