I Have a Job To Do

Sunday, March 10, 2013

I don't think I've ever written about this before, mostly because I try to avoid public whining. That's what family is for, right?

I've had structural issues with my feet forever, prescription orthotics since 1992.........essentially, a lot of my life has been directed by foot drama for well over 20 years.

When I came to SP almost three years ago, I approached it as a job that needed to be done. Tracking e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g, working hard, and reaping tremendous rewards(from 179 to 128lbs). When I reached my goal, I went on maintenance, and started to get a little sloppy, regaining some weight. Took some off again last fall. My last logged weigh-in was Oct 26, at 135 lbs.
My foot situations have intensified, and I've had to come to terms with the fact that this will only get worse, not better, perhaps we can slow down the decline. My response has been WRONG. I've spent a lot of time feeling sorry for myself and eating self-destructively. The result is that I've put TEN pounds on since fall.
I have to get back on top of things...Not so I can wear smaller jeans, but to protect my health and ability to walk.

It's important for me to keep doing what I can, and refrain from doing what I can't. I think the latter is harder, right now.

For at least the near future, I plan to post my daily goals and how I meet them. Just to keep me honest emoticon

My goals for today

1. fruits & veggies: 6
2. water: 8 Cups
3. exercise: Walk if I can, 120 fitness min strength
4. calories (1,200 - 1,650):
5. wild card: Clear some space in the office

1. fruits & veggies: 7
2. water: 8 Cups
3. exercise: 100 crunches, 100 rev crunches, banana, superman, back extension, 15 other strength exercises, focus on core
walked: 1/2 mile
4. calories (1,200 - 1,650): 1170
5. wild card: Cleared some space!

I"m so sorry about your feet! I am glad you are working on your health and trying to protect your ability to walk--its so important! In the past, I mostly hung around because this site is like, note-booking to the extreme, and its on health nut issues--2 of my favorite hobbies =)
but now I am trying to accomplish something, like a job, like you described. Trying to lose weight. Trying to get healthy. And I'm doing better at it.

Also, finally found a few goals that really motivate me.

I have an arthritic knee, and so I get what you mean.

I also wanted to let you know that there is a WHOLE TEAM of maintainers waiting to welcome you with open arms.

We embrace anyone who is grappling with the concept, whether or not they're at goal yet or not. Many of us had to work on the maintenance mindset long before we got there, so we'd be able to hit the ground running.

We've got tons of resources, support, and even challenges, for those of us like me who are driven by competition and external accountability.

Understand about the feet. I have the same problems. Have you had them X-rayed to spot arthritis? Also, as we get older tend to get peripheral neuropathy in the feet (numb at night, tingling, etc.). Keeping weight low, keeping sugar low tends to help. You are so much further along your health path than I am.

Congratulations for talking about it and getting back to tracking.
