An Odd Week
Friday, April 27, 2007
This whole week has been a series of minor hiccups that seemed intent upon screwing with my routine. No major crisis, just a series of little things that have piled on top of each other. My husband got sick with bronchial pneumonia. He is definitely feeling better now than he was at the beginning of the week. Most of the week I had to take care of him and do his chores as well as mine, but now he is starting to feel fiesty again and it is even more work to get him to rest enough so he doesn't have a relapse.
It also took all week to get the lawn mowed. Fist attempt I discovered I didn't have enough gas. Second time it started to rain just as I was getting ready to crank up the mower. Finally got it mowed today but the trimmer broke about half way through doing the edging.
I had already rearraged my schedule this week in preparation for a house guest we were originally expecting today. She called last night and said she wouldn't be coming because she didn't have her new glasses as expected (she had cateract surgery earlier this month) and she can't see too well to drive with the old ones. So now she is coming next week which means rearranging a few things again.
Also had one day that I ran into a major traffic tie up for what should have been a 30 minute errand that turned into a two and 1/2 hour one.
The good news is that while all this things left me feeling a bit out of control, my eating habits still took care of themselves just out of habit. I missed two normal meal times this week due to errands/commitments that didn't allow me to stop and eat, but I automatically took a breakfast bar and water with me so I didn't totally miss a meal. Exercise has been a bit sporatic in terms of my typical workouts but my routine activity level has been a bit higher this week just due to the extra time and work due to these schedule interruptions. I've maintained my water intake, although part of it through more coffee than usual and a little less sleep than usual.
Overall though (and in hindsight) everything has worked out well and it was a good and successful test of the maintainability of healthy habits even when things don't go as planned.
