Deadlifts...Again XD

Sunday, May 19, 2013

It's so funny when you you have to start over again. Not that I have to start over completely. I'm talking about my workouts. I have been learning and performing deadlifts which has become my favourite exercise in the whole world.

If I only ever did deadlifts for the rest of my life I would achieve everything I physically wanted to. The deadlift has so many benefits. They incorporate every single muscle in your body. They are functional for almost every task in life that you could imagine. They support your central nervous system. They increase your breathing capacity and stimulate your bio-connetic energy. OMG they are just the single greatest movement ever.

But while I say this I am still struggling to get it right, perfect. Because deadlifts require every single muscle, including your nervous system, to activate in perfect synergy, they take the longest time to perfect. Unlike isolation movements such as a biceps curl. You have to concentrate on every little muscle fibre available to you and often find yourself using muscles you have never used before.

When executed properly, the smallest amount of weight will have you panting, aching and puffing. This is because throughout the entire movement you have to engage every muscle all at the same time. Failure to do so will only mean that you are not receiving the full benefit of the exercise and you're just wasting time. Not only that but you increase your risk of injury.

I have learned to engage my abs, anus, quads and lower hamstrings. However, I am now in the process of making sure my chest and my upper back are doing what they're supposed to do. Man this is tough as I have been doing them wrong for so long and my posture has been bad for so long that it is taking some time for me to get my upper body correct. Not to mention that I still have to get my foot work, shoulders and calves into the game yet.

I must say though that I have been enjoying the process and I am loving where this particular journey is taking me intellectually. It's like i'm back at school again studying, it's actually pretty cool and makes me feel a lil cleverer...er, lol.

So, here I go again, learning more and continuing this journey of mine. All the best to everyone, god bless with love, kia kaha! Reuben.
