My own garden!

Monday, June 17, 2013

It's been a goal of mine these past few years to start my own garden, but I seem to have an excuse every year why it's just not a good time. So this year, I finally got it done. And let me tell you, after the initial work of building the raised bed and getting everything planted, it's been such an easy treat to have fresh herbs and veggies all the time! I LOVE it! Here's what I'm growing:

Basil (2 types)
Oregeno
Dill
Thyme
Rosemary
Sage
Mint (in a pot so it doesn't take over)
Cilantro
Jalepeno Peppers
Green Peppers
Cucumbers
Sweet Potatos
Tomatos
Squash
Watermelon
Strawberries
Jack-o-Lantern Pumpkins (request from my son, and now taking over the garden - lol)

My herbs are ready and I've been cutting them so that I have them fresh for recipes - so fun! And my first strawberries are almost ready to eat.

So fun, a great way to be "green" and grow our own produce, and the kids dig it (no pun intended). Just another way we've found to make healthy fun!

(this was a few weeks ago when we first planted. Things are getting much bigger now!)

Hope everyone is having a fantastic Monday!

Shannon

So jealous! I miss having a garden (down side to renting).

Sounds like you have a great variety there. Even potatoes!?!? Wow!

Have fun with it, and I am glad you are enjoying it!

Wow, what a great variety! The fresh herbs are going to smell nice outside in addition to being a tasty addition to your meals. And it's also a great way to get the kids involved with and excited about eating healthy foods.
