July Results, August Goals

Thursday, August 01, 2013

I stumbled in the beginning of July; we had just gotten back from our trip and then my birthday and our anniversary derailed me for a hot minute. But once that was over, I really got down to business.

July was good to me: I lost the 8 pounds I gained during the time we were away. I worked out hard and kept my step count above 15,000 for 28 out of 31 days in July. Here's my July activity report from Fitbit:

So July was successful, but today is a new month, so new goals must be set!

We will be gone the entire month of August, which of course is danger-time for the old Travelgrrl. Dr. Phil says the best predictor of future behavior is past behavior. Well, my past behavior away from home tells me that routines fall apart. Treats and alcohol and eating out can only be resisted for so long before I cave in and go to "the dark side."

So August is the month I change that behavior. I am not a child. I can learn to control my impulsive behavior. I do not "deserve" fried food and sweets and cocktails. I deserve a lean, fit, strong body, and I'm going to need it for hiking in Peru in September! I cannot lose sight of my goals and my urgent reasons for staying true to my higher purpose.

Goals for August:

Blog often to stay accountable to myself and Sparkfriends. When I'm not on Spark bad things are happening!

Lose 5 pounds. That seems to be my average, and while it doesn't seem like much it "is what it is." I'm 59 years old and now I'm into the extra pounds I've carried for 10 years or more, so it's not going without a fight!

No alcohol, no meals in restaurants. (But I reserve the right to have one exception on each count during the month.)

Exercise daily. I will start today with the 70-minute Spark video, Fit, Firm and Fired Up. Yes, 70 minutes is a long strength-training video, but I do two 75-minute strength training classes per week at the fitness center, so it is doable, as long as I don't get lazy. Procrastination is my enemy here.

We will also be hiking and sightseeing-walking, and I will continue my 5K-101 running series.

I am trepidatious, but I HAVE to do this. I cannot get off track every time we leave our home and routine.

I'd say "wish me luck", but we ALL know it's not about luck! It's about self-discipline, self-motivation, and self-determination!

Spark on!!!
