Half Marathon Training: Week 1 Day 2 (not off to the best start).

Yeah, it just isn't the best way to start off training for a half marathon, but here's the scoop.
I mentioned how sister created this AWESOME plan that I quite literally stole (took it right off her table) and it IS an awesome plan. The tricky part is she added a day of running! I know, right? What WAS she thinking? Lol....hey I agreed and actually had the plan to have a day 4 on my schedule too, part of what I loved about her plan is that it read my mind. I'm just NOT used to getting up on Monday and working out. It isn't a part of the schedule!! So, you guessed it, I did not do Monday's workout. I DID work really hard in my girls' room all day so I burned calories, just not according to plan.
Last night I updated my ipod with some "new" running songs (not new, old, just haven't been on my running playlist for a really long time, or ever). I plugged in my phone. I set out my gear (pants, shoes, socks, headband, shirt and sleeves (arm warmers in case it was too cool and needed the extra warmth for a bit). I was READY to run in the morning. What I didn't do was plan or pre-track my route. I knew the direction I wanted to head and I figured I'd use my phone to track distance and time. I figured this wouldn't be a problem since I JUST received a replacement phone for the phone that wouldn't hold a charge and then just went all black screen on me and wouldn't turn on no matter how much I charged it.
Waaayy too early this morning the alarm went off, I got up, got dressed, got all together and then realized I left the phone by the bed. Went to get it and BAM no charge!! What the HECK. I hate this phone's charger. It is two pieces, with a usb cord plugging into a standard plug, making it easier to use the phone with a computer, but the plug DOES NOT stay in the wall outlet. I've tried to alleviate this by being cautious and using an extension cord which sometimes holds the plug better than the wall outlet. Obviously I wasn't careful enough last night. Crumb-bum!! Well too late to do anything about it now. I just had to go for my run and try to do my best as I went.
Going back and using dailymile.com to track my run after the fact it turns out I did a darned good job estimating the one mile warm up distance, overshooting the mile mark by only .04 miles. Wow, totally impressed with that :).
I overshot the 2 miles of more intense effort by .12 miles. Again not too bad considering I didn't map it out :).
Finally, I hit the 4 mile mark for total workout distance RIGHT ON THE FRICKIN' HEAD!!! Dang I'm good-lol.
Unfortunately I have NO idea how I did on my paces. No clue at all, but based on effort, I put forth more effort during my warm-up one mile than I normally do for a warm-up without crossing into high exertion territory. I pushed slightly during the run phase, not too hard, but enough that it felt right for the pace I was aiming for. Maybe I was having a sluggish day though and was much slower than I felt.
What I determined though, is it really doesn't matter too much. :) It is just day two. I have some time to get the paces down and hopefully my phone won't play this trick on me too often so I can keep a better eye on things in the future. At least now I know my four mile route is a good one :).
