2014 Bridge the Gap Half Marathon Quincy, IL

I had a great race today in my home town after a somewhat disappointing marathon a few weeks ago. I decided to go into this race to just HAVE FUN and not look at any data on my watch. emoticon

This is me at 13 miles almost done!





I have been working with a coach the last year and a half and this had led to me becoming over focused on my times and taken a lot of the joy out of my running. Today I wanted to just "run by feel" and enjoy the race and I ended up with a time I was very pleased with.

This is me with two running friends. One local and one from St Louis. The one is the middle from St Louis is a writer and has an awesome running book called The Lola Papers. See link at bottom of blog. emoticon

She won the race for females. The gal on the right lives in my town but is from Mexico. emoticon She's very fast so we call her Speedy Gonzales!



I took second in my age group and had a wonderful time at this race! emoticon The weather was perfect. The course was very tough for the first half but still a really nice course.



The medals for the race were great too! Nicer than some of my marathon medals. It was a wonderful day! I think I will run all my summer emoticon races data free!

    Great job! Before my stroke I ran several 5k, and a half marathon. I also walked a few. Every year for 4 years I did the one at White Sands Missile Range, which at that time, was about 2 1/2 hours from my home. It was to honor the original survivors of the Bataan Death March. I did the 15 miles course. I would have done it again this year in March but wasn't ready and it's further away since I'm living in Fort Worth/Dallas metroplex now and because of the stroke couldn't go that far although I'm working on it. So I admire people when I see them so much. Hats off to you! I'm hoping one day I will be able to do some charitable events running again, but in the meantime when I get back from vacation I"m going to start looking at volunteering at some. I would walk usually 3 to 5 miles almost every morning, and did water aerobics and sometimes strength training until I had the stroke. The drs said that is what helped me recover faster than some people do, although I still have a few deficits and have been labeled disabled by Social Security. But I have a lot of plans for volunteer and possibly going back to work in time too. Remember what you do today is for today, but it can also be for different aspects of the future even when you don't know it!
