We had a wonderful time in London and Ireland! I'm an OK traveler but I do not like the airport stress!! And, flying international seems to add to the stress for me. Anyway, we were plenty early for our flight but still had little wait time by the time we stood in all of the lines.
Arrived at Heathrow 5:30 pm our time (10:30 pm England time). Took the Heathrow Express to Paddington Station; caught a cab to hotel. We were exhausted. Had a nice room; got unpacked and collapsed into bed. Did not get up until noon!! Had lunch in the hotel and headed out. We had planned on doing the open top tour bus on our first day to get a feel for the city. Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate for long. We had about 15 minutes and then the wind whipped up and here came the rain!! Had to run downstairs and had the rest of the tour in the enclosed portion of the bus. It was OK but more difficult to see the sights. I was a bit disappointed but it was OK, I guess. We ate fish and chips at a pub around the corner from our hotel and I tried a local cider! (I only drink wine but was determined to try local!). Yummy stuff!!
Had a traditional English breakfast the next morning. Yeah, not impressed. Runny egg, "baked" beans and hash brown "squares". Sausage and bacon were included as was toast. My first and last traditional breakfast. Do not like beans for breakfast or runny eggs! Tower of London day. Fascinating, beautiful, impressive. Had a fun time wandering around. Saw the crown jewels! Unbelievable! They look fake they are so big!
St. Paul's Cathedral in the afternoon. Fascinating, beautiful, impressive. (see a theme?). Wandered around with the tour headphones. Amazing! Light dinner and off to bed.
Buckingham Palace and changing of the guards on this day. Got to the palace about an hour and a half before ceremonies began so we had a great spot to watch. We waited and waited. The weather was beautiful--cool breeze and warm sun. Hubby is not a fan of the pomp and circumstance so he left me to go get a coffee and people watch. I lasted till the bitter end of the ceremony at the palace. (about an hour and a half). I enjoyed every minute. The respect, dignity and pageantry fascinate me. I can't think of anything like that in the states.
We went to Harrod's in the afternoon--bought nothing. What a massive, confusing store. Way too "stuffy" and "uppity" for me although we did eat in one of the small restaurants there and had delicious pizza! emoticon
Then off to spend a couple of hours at the Victoria & Albert museum. Dinner at a different local pub. Broccoli/cauliflower/cheese pie. YUM!!
Saturday we were off to Dublin, Ireland. We rented a car and drove to Galway. Driving on the "wrong" side of the road proved more challenging than my hubby had thought. Riding with him in Ireland was very similar to "Mr. Toad's Wild Ride" at Disneyland. emoticon
We poked around a bit and had dinner at the hotel.
Sunday we took a cab to Galway city center and did some sightseeing and shopping. Weather was rainy/cloudy but it was still a wonderful time. Loved it. Drove back to Dublin; spent the night and flew back to London on Monday.
Tuesday was hubby's big day! Abbey Road and Beatles. Fun! Saw the crosswalk, the studio and a home that one of the travel sites claims Paul still owns. Who knows? We ate lunch at Victoria Station and went on Thames cruise. Glorious weather. Great time.
Back to hotel to pack. UGH!
Up bright and early on Wednesday to catch our flight home.
I'm sorry I haven't gotten to my pictures yet. But we did have a great time. The trip was all I had hoped for. And, my foot held up fine!
Went to the nutritionist today. that will probably be my next blog! emoticon

What a great trip! At the Tower of London, did they list all the people who have met untimely ends there? Did you see the ravens?

Did you pick up some different words for things?

    Welcome home!

Ewww!! I hate runny eggs and do not want beans for breakfast either. The rest of the food sounded great. And the site seeing sounded fantastic too. I would have have loved to have seen the same - especially the crown jewels. My hubby would have been into that too!! LOL. Can't wait for the pictures.

Glad you had a good time. The sites you mentioned in London I saw and loved it. Did you take the "tube" at all? That was fun. I wish I had seen more of England than just London. Maybe next time. I am looking forward to seeing your pictures.

Thank you for taking the time to share your fabulous trip with us. I will probably never make a trip like that, so it is really fun to enjoy it vicariously. I got such a laugh over your "Mr. Toad's Wild Ride" description in Ireland. What a whimsical memory!!!!
I'm glad you are home safely and had a wonderful time!!!!

    Sounds AMAZING!!!
We have found that the longer the trip the better because of the jet lag and there is just so much to see and do and learn over there.
I have never been to England or Ireland.
We are wicked foodies and heard the food isn't that great so...
We might go to Prague next,
    Or Chile,
    Or Argentina,
    Or Australia...
It's a big world out there!
I'm so glad to hear your foot held up.
My BFF actually borrowed my shoes to go to France for 10 days-
she just got home last night and they had a fabulous trip, too.
Her (awful) mother is French and she use to go for a month every summer as a child but had not been back in many years and had never been to Europe with her hubby of nearly 30 years so they were very excited to finally go.
