Hello July/Goodbye July

I actually can't believe it's almost August. I read this thing a few weeks ago basically stating that the reason you feel like time passes so quickly when you're older is because, technically, it does. You have more years to reflect on rather than when you were, say, six and a year was only 1/6th of the entirety of your existence. Isn't that crazy?! Anyway, all of that is to say happy July, but guess I'm a little late.
I'm actually at work at the moment so I shouldn't be blogging, but I have some down time and I fear if I don't use this time to blog, the next opportunity will pass just as easily as all the others have. I am finally settled into my new apartment and job, which is an update I'm only too excited to share. Apartment-hunting sucks and it's nice to just have my space now. I'm happy to have completed a week of healthiness! I walked and ate more veggies in each meal, and even ate fruits as a snack instead of a "healthy" snack alternative. I go for the olive oil popcorn at Trader Joe's (TJ's, for future reference) and looove it, but can easily eat half a bag in a sitting so I've sworn off of that while I get it together lol. Baby steps, and for the time being I can't trust myself with treats like that. Because I apparently have an issue not eating whole packages of things as of late (horrible habit I've developed), I've been buying things like cartons of strawberries that I can just demolish and it won't even break 200 calories :) I've hacked my system! So, while I'm working on my ability to adhere to moderation, I've replaced the culprits altogether. I also have been buying food, especially for lunch at work to save money, by the week instead of in bulk as if I have a family to feed. More food at once makes me feel like I can eat whatever whenever and again, for now, I need to not have any temptation to go overboard. I'm more frugal with my calories when it doesn't seem like I can make more than a few meals out of groceries I have. As mentioned, I've been walking to start because of my sciatica, and now at the end of my walks I'll walk to TJ's (it's 15 mins from my apartment) and pick up some things for the week. It's a nice workout to get there and back (about 30 mins total walk time) and a bonus workout to carry the items back.
I met my goal for tomorrow already today which is awesome since I want to go to the beach this weekend! I need a tan and it's a shame to have lived up north for four years in school and not take advantage of the beaches here in LA. I am still working toward my goal time of my birthday (10/14) but the end-goal time was pushed back a bit since I wasn't focused the way I should have been. BUT I'm very confident in catching up! Who knows, maybe I could still make it if I really work hard - which, I fully am. Not intend to. Am. And I already feel better for it! I have more energy, and I've swapped my dirty chais for tea (black, green, early gray...there seems to be a theme here) for a pop of caffeine, but something more gentle. Oh, I also started a spreadsheet that will help me track for the week. It's all color-coded and everything, and although I use the sparkpeople app, it's a good way for me to be accountable in multiple places. I've pinned the tab to the spreadsheet (thanks Google docs) in my browser, so I never have a reason to forget.
Other than that, nothing much is going on with me! I've been working my normal 9-6 everyday, and I finally have a routine which is nice. I'm looking into getting a gym membership...but I may also be moving back to Boston which is a story in itself. That's a BIG maybe, so who knows, but if I stay here I will get a membership to LA Fitness. But, those aren't in Boston so I have to know where I'll be to do so. Luckily, LA is hilly enough to use walking as a good cardio for now, and I've also been going up and down to the 12th floor via stairs in my building. Anyway, hopefully I'll be back to blog before August is over haha and hopefully HOPEFULLY I'll even be back before July is over! That's also a big maybe...lol.
