Choosing a path to follow

Monday, September 22, 2014

Spark People has provided many resources for healthy living. I can find my path to good health going off into many directions. It is up to me which way I go and how dedicated I am to the journey.

There are also many opportunities for me to put action to my quest, such as the One for All and All for One team and being on the beautiful Azure Destinations island in BLC26. After being ill this past summer in dealing with thyroid issues and Plantar Fasciitis, I have found myself feeling the need to focus on my own health with a renewed zeal and importance.

There are many things that we cannot control about life, especially in the aging process. Caring for my StepMom in her final days made me realize how important it is for me to be as strong as possible. My goals at this point in my life are different than when I was younger. First of all, it is NOT all about losing weight.

Now, my goals are to be stronger, have more stamina, work on balance, and get my body in the best shape as I can to face whatever life has in store for me. It is about quality of life. I want to remain an active Grammy, someone who can interact with the grandkids without restrictions.

To meet these goals, I have already taken action. I am proud of my decision to seek a Personal Trainer and workout at the gym 4 times a week. Since August 1, I have been increasing my exercise program, as far as time and added weights. Walking is my main cardio and I am now meeting my goal of 10,000+ steps daily. I am adding more floor exercises, with the help of my PT and BLC.

The most positive and motivating actions I have taken are my interactions on my One for All team via our Walk Across America and rising to the demands of BLC. The online commitment and interaction with others who share my goals, is essential to my success.

This is my path, my goals:
~ Be stronger, more flexible, more 'balanced'
~ Have more stamina
~ To eat intuitively without overeating
~ To find my natural weight

These are the actions that I am taking to follow my path:
~ 10,000 steps 6 of 7 days
~ Work out at the gym 4 days a week
~ Increase my floor exercises with weights and keep increasing
~ Make healthy low carb food choices
~ IE, listening to my hunger and stopping when just satisfied
~ No overeating
~ Sugar very rarely
~ No nighttime eating

I am committed to evaluating my progress along the way and tweaking what is working and what is not. I am excited about this path I am taking to being the best ME I can be. I am honored to have each of you by my side.

We will prevail.

Carol, I'm with you, we are going to need all the strength we can muster to enjoy our golden age. I still need to lose weight, if only to stave off medications, but I feel so much better now that the ST is heating up.

I know you will succeed. I love your plan, but more so, I love your determination! You have the most important ingredient in this: Motivation. Without that, a plan is just a plan.

I look forward to hearing all about your small successes in the coming weeks. You are strong! emoticon emoticon
