What a whirlwind of emotion. The ups: celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary with good friends and my children, a trip to DC... getting to see my 89 and 92 year old parents and my sister and her family, biking along the C and O canal to visit the Lincoln Memorial and watch the Marine Core Marathon.
The downs: the 4th anniversary of the loss of my dear friend, Jan, pink everywhere to remind me that I don't like any cancer, especially breast cancer, more trouble with depression than I've had in a long time (when I see my family, I am reminded that I am doing well).
I read an interview with Cheri Maples, a police officer from Madison, Wisconsin who practices in the tradition of Thich Nhat Hahn. She listed three things that made sense. 1..don't be attached to your wounded self. 2. Don't let the things that matter most be at the mercy of what matters least (Steven Covey made this point). 3. We always have a choice.
I am going to choose the ups. For November, I am going to post my gratitudes daily in the Thanksgiving Community.
