Annual Quilt Retreat

Monday, November 24, 2014

Every year MSWEEZER and I go to a quilt retreat here in Indiana at a State Park Lodge. This year was no different and there were 75 ladies and one gentleman who sewed and quilted from Friday to Sunday. We stayed at the lodge and meals were provided. (Not too healthy emoticon ) Weezie came from Michigan on Thursday and we went to the lodge a day early. We went to a quilt shop and just looked. I know amazing as neither of us bought anything!!

On Friday, we went to the other quilt shop and that is where we both went a bit "nuts"!! The lady who sponsors the quilt retreat has a very large room that we all set up in. She brings most of her store there too! We then set up our machines and all the "equipment" that we needed to work on our sewing. We both decided to make the same quilt but with different material. I didn't get all my blocks made but did get 13 of them finished. Here is a picture of the blocks laid out.

Here is another close up of the umbrella:

We started sewing on Friday morning about 11 a.m. and sewed until about 10 p.m. with breaks of course. On Saturday, we again sewed on our blocks and in the evening we had "Show and Tell". It is really awesome what some of these women create. The one gentleman who was there showed a quilt that was just amazing. I talked to him and he lives alone and he told me that when he was a small child his mother taught him to sew. He only began to sew again in the last 10 years.

Here is a picture of the Christmas Throw that I showed:

It still needs binding but that will have to wait as I am having hand surgery next week. So I'll probably not get it finished until after Christmas.

On Sunday, we packed up after sewing for about 2 hours and headed home. Now to get my sewing room "unpacked" and put back together. There is another quilt retreat in April of next year but haven't decided if I will go. Oh, what the heck....I'll probably go! I just love doing it!!

Sorry I missed this until now. Sounds like a lot of fun! Love your Christmas quilt. Hope your hand has healed well. Hand surgery sounds serious for a quilter.

How very beautiful, and I do appreciate your sharing so much. I imagine that it must be so much fun to be in a room with others who love quilting. Did you see the Cobbled Court picture post about the lady who was sewing in her RV? I saw that and thought "I need to quit talking about do that and just to it!"

Do you have a favorite source for learning to do the applique? I do think that will be my next focus.

Oh I love your quilt too! I love the colors you picked!

The Christmas quilt looks great even without the binding.

So sorry you will have to go get hand surgery. People that are so talented shouldn't have to take any down time.

    Thanks for sharing. emoticon

It is so fun that you can go together and share friendship and the love of quilting. I love the blocks and love that you can use the same pattern and make something entirely different. It is wonderful.

I also love the Christmas throw. It is elegant and unique with the differently shaped blocks. I know you will enjoy it when it is finished.

    Glad you shared with us.

I enjoyed seeing your work and hearing about the retreat. I am so glad you and Weezie get to go to these retreats. The retreat itself is special but then the time you spend with another Spark Friend makes it priceless!
