Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, and this afternoon we are all headed up to Clearlake to spend the holiday weekend with my parents as well as my sister and brother-in-law. I am so full of gratitude to be alive and healthy this holiday, with so much to look forward to in the coming year.
As I've mentioned before, I was in a serious accident in the beginning of May. My pelvis (the part the forms the left hip socket) was broken such that a wedge of the bone was separated from the rest of it. It took a plate and 6 screws to put me back together. This is what my pelvic bone looks like now:
I am so grateful for my amazing surgeon who put me back together! He's both handsome and humble. When I asked him what drew him to this aspect of medicine, he told me "I like carpentry." I couldn't be more thankful for his surgical expertise, as well as my other surgeon, who did my hand and wrist surgery. Their care and concern has made such a difference in my life.
I have tremendous gratitude for my wonderful husband, who took such great care of me in the weeks following the accident, making sure I was fed and cleaned up. He arranged for the hospital bed and the wheelchair, and set up the family room and office so that I could maneuver around the part of our house that is all one level. I am also thankful for the friends who brought food over, since Steve is not a cook. Those first few weeks, nothing tasted better than casseroles made with love (even if they weren't necessarily the healthiest of meals).
Finally, I'm thankful that we have a place to go for the holiday that gives me such great joy and peace every time I visit. Our house in Clearlake is an incredible gift that I still can hardly believe we have. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, filled with health and happiness!
