Gratitude

Wednesday, November 26, 2014

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, and this afternoon we are all headed up to Clearlake to spend the holiday weekend with my parents as well as my sister and brother-in-law. I am so full of gratitude to be alive and healthy this holiday, with so much to look forward to in the coming year.

As I've mentioned before, I was in a serious accident in the beginning of May. My pelvis (the part the forms the left hip socket) was broken such that a wedge of the bone was separated from the rest of it. It took a plate and 6 screws to put me back together. This is what my pelvic bone looks like now:

I am so grateful for my amazing surgeon who put me back together! He's both handsome and humble. When I asked him what drew him to this aspect of medicine, he told me "I like carpentry." I couldn't be more thankful for his surgical expertise, as well as my other surgeon, who did my hand and wrist surgery. Their care and concern has made such a difference in my life.

I have tremendous gratitude for my wonderful husband, who took such great care of me in the weeks following the accident, making sure I was fed and cleaned up. He arranged for the hospital bed and the wheelchair, and set up the family room and office so that I could maneuver around the part of our house that is all one level. I am also thankful for the friends who brought food over, since Steve is not a cook. Those first few weeks, nothing tasted better than casseroles made with love (even if they weren't necessarily the healthiest of meals).

Finally, I'm thankful that we have a place to go for the holiday that gives me such great joy and peace every time I visit. Our house in Clearlake is an incredible gift that I still can hardly believe we have. You can see photos by clicking this link (not a solicitation for vacation rentals, but the best way to show photos of the house and the views): www.vrbo.com/512297

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, filled with health and happiness!

Steve
