is the name of a show I just finished watching on Amazon prime. It was originally on A&E during 2011. This show chronicles the weight-loss journey of two people in each episode for a period of six months. In the first five episodes the people are in a controlled environment for the first 30 days. Here they are taught nutrition and exercise. They are then sent home and are given a personal trainer and are monitored for the next five months. The other episodes have the participants in a controlled environment for a full six months where they are taught the same information and are then sent home. In all cases the participants had large amounts of weight to lose in order to become healthy. In all cases the participants were able to accomplish their weightloss goals.

I learned several things watching this show. The first is that I am no different from those on this show. True, the amount of weight I want to lose may be different, but I still have to do the very same things they had to in order to do it in a healthful way. Next is that we can do all the losing weight we want but until we can change our mindset about it we will never keep it off. Thirdly is that we are all in our own process during this battle and we should not judge one another. Finally, there is no easy fix when it comes to becoming healthy...it takes hard work.

Every person had to relearn what was healthy to eat and what they needed to do to move their body. They all had to learn what was causing them to turn to food for comfort instead of facing things. All of them were a support for each other. All of them found that at the beginning of their journey things were really hard but as they put in the work they started to reap the rewards for that hard work. In all cases they were suprised that they could do so much.

Not everyone's journey will be the same. Just because I had weightloss surgery 9 1/2 years ago didnt mean it was a quick fix. I didnt mean I would keep the weight off automatically. It was a tool in my own journey. I initially lost 104 pounds. I started at 268 and ended up at 164. However I didnt stick to the rules I had agreed to and have regained 40 of those pounds. Now its time to do the work I should have done to begin with. This time I will take this one step at a time.

I guess the biggest lesson I learned from watching "Heavy" was that you can have all the help in the world to lose weight and get healthy but no one can do it for you. If you want to be successful it is, in the end, up to you.

    I've watched similar programmes and they all gave a very similar picture.
    One thing we all need to do is keep our journeys realistic. We all move at a different pace and our bodies work differently.
