Evil Atkins bars

Wednesday, January 21, 2015

Finally the scale is moving down. I owe it mostly to not eating "evil" Atkins bars. Those things pretend to be low carb by having thing like "2 grams net Atkins count (TM)" but the reality is that they have about 20 real grams. A whole lot better than a real chocolate bar, but ....

I'm a canary in a coal mine as far as weight loss and carbs go. At 30 grams a day I can loose weight, but at 50 my weight loss is stalled by the insulin reaction to the carbs.

Atkins bars appear to be a friendly lc option for people on the go so I bought some. I do not feel well when I eat them and certain ones make my tongue feel numb. As soon as I cut them out my weight started to drop. REAL FOOD ALL THE WAY!

Interesting, I've tried bars in the past and found that they trigger my food seeking problem, so I haven't ordered any bars from IP. Also Sorbitol causes diarrhea and gas pains, so I avoid it if I can. I use Stevia for sweetener as much as I can. At this point, I'm not willing to deviate from IP foods, even though they are very expensive, because they are working. I like the fact that my daily intake is 3 IP foods, 8 oz protein, 4 cups veggies and that's it... much easier than counting carbs or calories, since I've done both in the past. And I love all vegetables, so I'm good. I bo emoticon ught $500 of food so I can go to my stash and make a decision when I'm ready to eat, rather than plan ahead. So I'm good for about a month. As time goes on, I know what I want to reorder and others that I don't use much. emoticon

You are blessed to know that about your body. Once we are able to "read" our body right we have won half the war.

God bless you with success to goal!

The last time I was eating low carb (under 30 g a day), if I went over that, I would be out of ketosis. But the longer I was staying on track and exercising, over time, I inched that up to 50 grams a day and was still in ketosis and still losing weight. That was over about 16 months. Then I was off it totally for about 8 months, and when I got back to it, I couldn't eat 50 grams of carbs anymore. I had to go back under 30 to see the weight come off. I have to wonder if over time or combined with the exercise, it improves insulin resistance thus allowing you to eat more carbs. Just a thought.

Wouldn't eat them any way. Prepared packaged foods are not the way to go. New here but have lost 77 lbs so far. emoticon everyone.

Yep--I'm wondering if that's the real holdup on my plan. It makes for an easy lunch or breakfast on the go, but they aren't cheap and the sugar alcohols have no real nutritional function. It would be like loading up on Splenda saying 'but I don't eat real sugar' (which I am to phase out artifical sweeteners). Ideally we should just eat real food, in reasonable proportions, and healthy fats.

Well on the fruit question, I generally have a cutoff of 6% net carbs by weight. More than that and I consider it low carb. So that makes strawberries, raspberries and blackberries as meeting the cutoff.

Good for you! I know that the few Atkins bars that I had tried, were downright putrid and I would never buy them again. I joined the Sparking Low Carb team once again, just today. I know that it works, it's just a matter of sticking to it for the long run. See you around!

Go you. We definitely have to gauge how our bodies feel, and that tells us what our bodies need (or not!)
