Day 146 - Friday Friendships
Saturday, April 25, 2015
There's something about Friday, after a week of work, that makes us want to hang out with friends. It starts the weekend off on the right foot, and makes you feel good too.
I told Steve I wanted to go out for dinner tonight, and why didn't he ask our neighbors Mike and Sandy if they wanted to join us. Mike is a retired police office and Sandy just retired as a county worker, both from San Mateo county. They've had a house here for about 20 years, and they moved up here temporarily while their house in San Mateo is on the market. They are hoping to buy a house up in Reno as their permanent residence, with the house on the lake as the summer house.
Luckily, they said YES.
The four of us drove up in my car to Lakeport, the county seat, which is about 40 minutes away. There's a place downtown called the Old World Tavern that has had good reviews for their burgers, and they offer other pub food (both British and Continental European). We all had burgers, and they were delicious! The beer and drinks were good too. They had live music, and we decided to stay for an after dinner drink so that we could enjoy a little more of the music (the guy did everything from blues to pop). It was so much fun.
Back when we lived in Indiana, we did a similar thing on Friday nights that we called the "Tavern Tour," where we'd go to a local watering hole every Friday night for drinks and dinner, and to hang out and talk. We loved it. We tried something similar in Sacramento, and it worked out ok, but petered out after my accident because we didn't organize it anymore.
I hope we can start up something like this again up here, and that other people will take a hand at coordinating it, but you know, if we're the ones who end up being responsible for it all the time, and we enjoy it, what does it matter? The point is to have fun!
I hope you all have a fun weekend planned. We had some light drizzle on the drive back tonight, and it's supposed to rain much of tomorrow. Oh, I hope so! We have some new friends (that we've never met) coming for drinks and dinner tomorrow night. The social gatherings continue.
Spend time with friends and reap the benefits of interactions with other minds and souls. It's the best part about being in community with each other, and should be cherished and encouraged.
