Update 2015

Wednesday, May 06, 2015

Geez, it's been a long time since I have made a blog entry. Sorry, is all I can say. Life got really busy my last year at work. I have FINALLY retired from nursing after 30+ years.

"Do I miss it?" Heck no!! I'm enjoying every day. However, I've been so busy since I retired June 15th, 2014 it makes my head spin to think about it.

In July my husband and I bought a rental property and the work really began. We painted, nailed, put down new floors , repaired windows, plumbing etc.,etc. until I promised "I would never do that again."

Well, I lied. We bought another property in November 2014 and off we went again traveling 4 hours back and forth to make repairs to this property. We finally wizened up and drug our travel trailer and camped out on the front driveway for 3 months. Funny thing happened. The house and land is located between my mother and little sister. We did so much sweat equity on the property and I liked the results so much we decided to move in.

So after 31 years in Ponder, Texas we downsized from a house with over 3,000+ sq. feet to one with a little over 2,000. I didn't think that would make that much difference but boy was I wrong.

I WILL be having a huge garage sell very soon. :o) It's amazing how much stuff one accumulates in 41 years of marriage.

I can honestly say I am happier than I have ever been in my life. Living between my mom and sister is fantastic. Mom walks over for coffee in the mornings, dinner and porch sitting in the evenings. (She is 85 and still mows and weed eats her yard). Shopping with little sister has been great, too. Now, if we can only convince our older sister to move from North Carolina onto one of our back 2 acres :o) life would be perfect.

My health is not so bad. Still dealing with my last 30 lbs. to lose but I haven't gained the 60 lbs. I lost back years ago. Kudos, especially when all the eating out we have done lately.

We now plan to drive the 4 hrs. (two way) back to Ponder ...repair etc. and sell our home. Know anyone who wants to buy a big old Cape Cod Blue house with 5 bedrooms and 3 baths???

I had a total knew replacement left knee Feb. 2013. Can't remember if I said that in my last update. Best thing I ever did. Can walk everywhere now without pain. Plan to join a gym with Mom and sister and niece when she graduates with her BSN (Nursing) end of May. Meanwhile, I'm counting calories, watching carbs, and walking.

I feel good and positive. I'm ready to get this last poundage off and buy some of the pretty dresses I see in all the stores.

When I retired I wondered what on earth I would do to fill the time. Soon I wondered how I ever found the time to work. Congrats on maintaining your loss, and accomplishing a move. Both are big deals!

So good to hear from you. I, too, have been away for a long time. Lost track of now long, but the past week or two I had been thinking about SPARK and friends from back when I was active. Jo you look great! Retirement agree with you. But, sounds like you are working A LOT. but it is fun when it is something you chose to do and enjoy and find gratifying. Hooray for you!

It really made my day hearing how happy you are. I am in the midst of child raising and working, and although I enjoy it all, I am looking forward to when I can just make decisions based on what I want to do and what will make me happy. Love hearing how active your mom is too!

LOL. I don't miss nursing either but have been gone long enough to feel guilty about not missing it. LOL.

My family was heavily into rental property. I used to manage their hundreds of properties when they went to Florida every winter and I hated it. When mom got older and sick I forced her to sell hers off but when she died she was down to one. It was a huge 11 room house and hubby and I spent 9 months remodeling it. We did a great job and sold it for twice what it was valued at. Everyone wondered why we didn't keep it for ourselves but it was in a small town, on a state highway, a railroad track was across the street, it had no outbuildings. I would have loved to had the sun room, master suite, bigger dining room, bigger kitchen, etc though. But we are already ready for retirement and started out downsized. Not sure of the square footage we have but 1200 - 1300 or so.

Sounds like you are doing fantastic!! Good job on keeping that weight off!!

Sounds fantastic, Jo! I'm SO happy you retired! Isn't it great? And yes it is always busier than working for a living, lol. But more fun, too.

See you here on SP from now on.

Waoh! You've really been staying active since retirement. Kudos to you. My mom and step dad own rental houses too, so I know how hard they can be to maintain. I've been spending a lot of time at them lately! Awesome blog post. Keep being awesome!
