Day 173 - Scattered Showers
Friday, May 22, 2015
We had an amazing storm that rolled through this afternoon about 5pm. It missed Lower Lake (where my office is), and I didn't leave the office until 5:30! I saw the detritus from the storm on my drive home, including a mudslide and a slew of rocks and asphalt that was dragged across the road from the runoff. I guess it was truly amazing, and I'm sorry I missed it! (The roads in Lower Lake were completely dry when I left the office - I swear!)
Some good news came from my crew today. They figured out a different way of laying out the hillside stairway at our latest veteran home repair job, and it will save both time and money! I am hoping that we'll save enough that we can add a few more tasks to their project, but at this point, it's too early to tell. The clients are happy, and that makes me happy too. This is a couple that is immensely deserving of help, and their joy at having their project approved and initiated is a great feeling for all of us.
I've had a great week food and fitness-wise. I had my weigh-in after work today, and I'm right where I was last week: 171.1 pounds! Is that good? I'm doing a lot of strength training, so maybe I'm adding some muscle to replace the fat, and so my weight isn't changing. I am feeling tighter and firmer, so maybe that's what is happening. It's funny how as I've lost weight, the difference between fat loss and weight loss seems harder to gauge. The reality is that I feel great, and so I'm ok if the scale doesn't move, as long as it doesn't move UP!
Tomorrow is my last day of work before vacation. Saturday we are driving to Sacramento to check out a boat that I am pretty sure we're buying, but they are going to take us out into Folsom Lake to check out and make sure we like it. If we do, then we'll probably go back and pick it up on Saturday, June 6 after we get back from our trip. Sunday morning, early early early, we are heading out for our drive to Kentucky. Our niece Jamie is getting married on Friday, May 29, and I am singing at the wedding. We are excited about the drive, the adventure, and spending time with friends and family back in the Evansville, Indiana/Henderson, Kentucky metropolitan area (for anyone who knows that part of the country, it is far from metropolitan - they even objected to the new freeway coming through, because it is called I-69!!! NO JOKE!!!!!!)
Life is so good right now, and I am so full of joy and gratitude I can barely contain myself. I hope you all find a source of joy in your life (I've got an idea - how about some physical activity to bring you joy) and cherish everything you've got that someone else lacks. Because life isn't about being thankful for THINGS. It's about being thankful for all those wonderful aspects of life that you can't just put on a shelf and admire. It's about love, and friendship, and helping others, and making a difference in your community, and appreciating the beauty that is all around us.
And I am so appreciative of each and every one of you for making a difference in my life. Your love and support and encouragement is one of my lifelines. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Have a great last day of the week, friends!
