Day 189 - Life on the Lake
Saturday, June 06, 2015
We met with our contractor Gary this morning to talk about our remodel. It had been over a month since our last meeting, and basically, nothing had happened since then. We had to remind him to touch base with the engineer and draftsman to finalize the plans, so that he can give us a price on the job. It looks like he won't be able to start working until September at the earliest. This is apparently normal for contractors up here - they'll get to you when they get to you, and not a day earlier.
We then took the boat out for its official inaugural ride on the lake. We went all the way to the northwest corner of the lake (to the town of Nice, California, named after the city in France on the Mediterranean). We were looking for a restaurant up there to possibly have lunch, but couldn't find it. We came back about 12:20pm and picked up our neighbors Alex and Slava, and the four of us went across our little part of the lake to the Richmond Park Bar & Grill for lunch. It was loads of fun. And who should come in a few minutes after us? Our friend Barbara, the one that our neighbor Diane helped launch her boat yesterday! So we visited a little with her while we were enjoying some beer on the patio. The restaurant had live music, so it was a really festive afternoon.
We drove the boat back across the water, and Alex and Slava showed us some of their favorite homes along the shoreline. There are some magnificent homes up here - million-dollar-plus houses with their own private boat ramps and lifts. We even saw a couple sea planes!
Lunch wasn't particularly healthy (a delicious burger with Swiss cheese and sauteed mushrooms and a side salad with oil and vinegar, plus a couple IPAs), but I think we're so full that supper will be very light. I got some yoga in this morning, and then we had a good hike with the dogs this afternoon. I even got a swim in the lake - we lost one of our bumpers pulling into our dock, and so I jumped out to retrieve it. I thought of you, IowaRhino! The water was brisk but refreshing.
We are in for the night, and I will definitely sleep well! Have a great night, SparkFriends! Keep Sparking!
