knee arthritis and exercise

I have server arthritis in both knees. I am wanting to find exercise that can help me loose weight. It is hard when I am in pain most of the time. I can't have knee replacements until first losing lots of weight. It's frustrating to know you can't have one thing until I do the other. Right now my knees are debilitating. I know of I could just get some cardio I could lose their weight . Just diet does not do anything. Any suggestion or anyone in the same situation?

    they say weight loss is 80% diet and 20% exercise. There are lots of good chair exercises for older people on YouTube. i find they work well.

    I too have severe arthritis in both knees. When I first started SP I was very debilitated. I found the Chair exercises with Coach Nicole and began doing them routinely. They are so very beneficial for us with bad knees. Also if you have access to a pool the exercising is much easier on your knees. I also got some resistance bands and also use them routinely. I also started marching in place near a chair for stability as my balance was also a bit off. Since I joined SP I have lost 37 pounds.

    Give Coach Nicole's chair exercises or any of the chair exercises a try and you will be glad you did!!

    The seated cardio exercises here on spark people are amazingly heart pumping. You will have to move your legs but there is zero weight on them. Here's one I really love and you can do it several times a day!

    How is walking for you? When I hurt my knees I was able to do Leslie sansone walk videos at home. Doesn't have to be the whole video right away, just so you start moving some. I agree about water aerobics as well, that might be something you can do as well.

    You might try water exercising.....people with arthritis seem to be able to do that without put too much weight on their joints.
