It's All About Perspective

Monday, July 20, 2015

You can focus on the negative . . . or be thankful for the health you have.

Recently, my focus has been on the negative . . . an unfortunate, preventable (in my opinion) injury in spin class, that has removed me from my "happy place," and driven me into a depressed state. That is until I received some news from a dear friend that put things into perspective.

You see, this dear friend recieved devestating news about his health. Unthinkable news. Horrible news. He and his wife, expecting their first child within a month, received results from tests that revealed a brain tumor. And after surgery last week, the doctor told them he was unable to get the whole tumor. Chemo & radiation will commense immediately, and their 1st born child will be coming any day now.

Certainly puts my disappointment in not being able to spin anymore in perspective, now doesn't it? Now when I feel sad that I can't go to my "happy place" anymore, I think of my dear friends, and I don't feel as sad.

That's not to say that I'll let my gym off-the-hook that fast, but I won't come to tears over the situation like I did. I'm not as depressed over THAT situation anymore.

It's all about perspective.

I'm so sorry to read about your friends. Sending prayers up right now and thinking of all involved.

I'm also supporting you in the moments when you are feeling depressed (or frustrated etc) about your own trials and letting you know that it's okay during those times, to feel any way you want and need to. I'm sure you already know that, just wanted to share what was on my heart when I read your blog. Again, prayers to all for healing and comfort.

I can relate to this in all aspects of life, and you are right, in a terribly sad way it does put things into perspective. It makes me think of a comment I saw on FB not too long ago. "If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's, we'd grab our back." I have been out of commission with an injury myself since June 7th.

I cant even imagine what your friends our going through, I hope that the chemo and radiations helps. Prayers and positive thoughts for them.

"I cried when I had no shoes--until I saw a man with no feet." Being grateful for what you do have will give your life more joy.

There's always someone whose problems are worse than one's own. I'm sorry you've been sidelined from something you enjoy; hope your injury heals soon. Prayers for your friends....
