Need some advice - motivation

Tuesday, August 04, 2015

I had lost 52 pounds at one point. My body struggled to stay there and I found I settled pretty comfortably at 47 pounds down.

That was over a year ago. Since then, I'm ashamed to say that life got the better of me (as you'll see, my SP participation dropped off...). I started to return to my old ways. I'm back up 12 pounds (still down 35 from my original weight but up a total of 17 from my thinnest).

I feel like I am starting all over again and I am frustrated, overwhelmed and frankly mad at myself for back sliding.

I started this journey in February 2012 and lost most of the weight pretty quick because I was SO. MOTIVATED. Now I find I'm lucky if I can make it through a day, let alone a week (month, year...).

This is where I need your help: what one thing do you think would be most helpful for me to do/not do as I restart my journey?

Hey, you aren't alone. I'm really struggling as well. Maybe we can encourage each other. You can do this. This is the long game, not the short.

Thank you all for your insights!! I'm just keeping at it - one day at a time.

It's a One Day At A Time journey, which when you think about it, is how all journeys work. You can't do anything about yesterday, you can deal with tomorrow when it gets here. There isn't anything you can't do for Just One Day.

I agree with Susan about starting by logging your food. Tell yourself that you can eat anything you want as long as you log it. As time goes on, you will see what you eat makes a big difference and you'll like eating to lose weight. It's the things you don't log that will keep you from meeting your goals!

Don't be so hard on yourself. You caught yourself before you gained all the weight back. Take it a step at a time. Log what you are eating so you can see what you are doing now, and make adjustments to get where you want. Add in exercise and water. If you need more support, join one of the teams on here. emoticon

Sorry about the double post. The computer freaked out the first time and it looked like I lost the post.

This is a journey. Thete are bumps, side roads and giant valleys. Start small---drinking more water.... 10 minutes of exercise. I was off track since December. I just started back with a group reading "100 Days of Weight Loss by Linda Spangle". We are on Day 4. I am still a mess, but making little steps forward. You can too. Hugs, Laurel emoticon

I've restarted more times than I can count over the past 20-something years. Beating yourself up is officially over. Life happens.

Think baby steps... small healthy changes each day. Don't overthink it or look too far ahead. Just today, get active in some way for at least 10 minutes.... a walk, a short Spark video or youtube video.

Fill up a water bottle to keep with you all day.

Don't get drastic with your food. Start cutting portions a little bit. Look into healthy, filling foods and slowly make healthy swaps.

When you have a bad day, end the day on a positive note, do some stretching or get a piece of fruit to get yourself in a positive mindset for the next day.

Okay that's more than one thing but that's what helped me loose those last 10 pounds and stay in maintenance for 2 1/2 years. Give yourself a good base of healhty habits to build on.

    Have faith in yourself!
