Weight Loss is Like a College Class

Thursday, August 06, 2015

Spark Coach (Coach Nicole) told me today that the commitment to weight loss “is similar to taking a college level class.”

That sort of made me want to cry. Clearly Coach Nicole was not the neurotic, overachiever I was in college. I was so mad (SO MAD) that I graduated Magna Cum Laude and not Summa Cum Laude (I graduated with a 3.7 and not a 3.9 – my grade in stupid statistics ruined everything).

So I’m supposed to put in the same level of effort that I did into my college classes??? The same blood, sweat, and tears? On top of my insanely busy job and generally trying to have a life and be a semi-well balanced person?! ARE YOU KIDDING?

I know that it was supposed to be motivating and give me a frame of reference of how hard I’m supposed to be working. But that sounds overwhelming and just generally awful.

I was trying to find a way to make this journey less stressful, not more! Grrrrrr

I was the same way in college! Lol! I used to be that way in everyday life...then my 3rd child happened! In the last 23 years I have learned what is important to be perfect and what isnt. I have also learned that I am not perfect.

You and I are a lot alike, lol. We have to not only achieve our goals, but also prove that we did it perfectly :)

But this journey you on now, is not a test you can study for. It's not a class where you are hoping to be the highest achiever. You can't be Summa Cum Laude.

Because you are not competing with everyone else. You're only competition is yourself. And there is no test because this is your life. And it's the only one you've got.

So don't worry so much about failure. Success is knowing that you gave it your best effort. And don't take all of the advice you hear directly to heart. Find the method that works for you and work it.

BTW, I added you as a SparkFriend. :)

It will be what you make it. Attitude is everything. Some journeys are more difficulet than others. You are only competing against yourself. Yes, it's always hard to do the right thing, but easier when you know how good it is for you!
