Another big setback with the hemoglobin, transfusion yesterday
Friday, October 09, 2015
Had another set back again with the hemoglobin levels. On Monday, 9/28, it was at 10; when it was checked again this past Tuesday, it was down to 8.2, that is quite a drop within about a week.
I started not feeling so good over the weekend, but I really didn't expect that my hemoglobin was dropping so fast at the time. I managed to make it the monthly lunch out with the friends I use to work with, but I was so worn out from it, I slept for almost 4 hours after I got home.
Mel, (short for Melody), my hospice nurse, came over on Tuesday to check my blood counts. I found out late that night my hemoglobin was at 8.2, so it's no wonder I was feeling so crappy. Mel started on Wednesday morning arranging for me to have a blood transfusion for Thursday, but there was a mix up between the doctor's office and the hospital and to make a long story short, it took Mel a lot of phone calls to get it scheduled (Until around 9am yesterday, I wasn't sure if I could still get it that day, or have to wait til today, and I'm sure at the rate it was dropping that yesterday morning it was probably below 8.
Anyway, the hospital called me a little after 9am and said they were ready for me as soon as I could get there. I had to wait for a ride, so it was close to 10am when I got there. I got back home around 5pm last night. It was a long day, but today I am feeling better.
Obviously though, the time I can go in between transfusions is getting shorter; it had been every 4 weeks; this time, it was barely 3 weeks from the one I had last month.
I want to thank everyone again for the messages, Spark goodies, and birthday wishes. I'm afraid I'm still behind on all my online stuff and it's going to take me awhile to catch up, but I will try my best.
