Sleep Training Adults

I'm a night owl by nature and have an awful time getting up in the mornings. Lately I've swung even more nocturnal and going to bed earlier at night only leaves me staring at the ceiling for hours on end. Even days when I am up at 6am, it's hard to get to sleep before the following 2am!

At this point I'm becoming increasingly sleep deprived (since I have to still get up and go to work) and I haven't been getting to gym in the morning. Admittedly the AM gym is a bit of a stretch, but after work rarely happens because my job has a tendency to run into the night on a regular basis.

Anyone have any tricks for turning off my brain by midnight?

    If you find the trick, let me know. I'm a natural night owl too. I stopped fighting it and don't bother going to bed until 11 PM or midnight - unless I'm absolutely exhausted. I go for my walk in the evening as that relaxes my body and mind. I have never been one to exercise first thing in the morning. Hope you find something that works.

    Thanks, I may try the melatonin. I've been trying to keep away from pills, but something has to give. Also, that would allow me to get up/to the gym in the AM to try the hard workout advice.

    A hard workout in the morning may do the trick. After I go through my exercise regimen, sound sleep comes naturally.

    maybe try melatonin. Some people do a breathing exercise before bed, turn your tv off an hour before you go to sleep.
