Sleep Training Adults

I'm a night owl by nature and have an awful time getting up in the mornings. Lately I've swung even more nocturnal and going to bed earlier at night only leaves me staring at the ceiling for hours on end. Even days when I am up at 6am, it's hard to get to sleep before the following 2am!
At this point I'm becoming increasingly sleep deprived (since I have to still get up and go to work) and I haven't been getting to gym in the morning. Admittedly the AM gym is a bit of a stretch, but after work rarely happens because my job has a tendency to run into the night on a regular basis.
Anyone have any tricks for turning off my brain by midnight?
