Wow, it is very unusual for me to go this long without blogging. And usually when I fall silent for long stretches, it is very bad news. It means I've backslid, regained and am piling on the pounds.

Well, I will be gaining some weight over the next six months -- but it's because I'm PREGNANT!

This is my first pregnancy and I'm very excited. My husband and I have been together for ten years and married for seven. We both have good, stable jobs and a nice lifestyle -- which is about to be somewhat upended by the new arrival! But the bottom line is we're happy.

As for me, I have not tossed over my good healthy habits in favor of a tub of ice cream! On the contrary, as an overweight mom, I must be careful not to gain too much weight. I'm continuing walking to and from work each day and also during my lunch breaks and I'm taking 3-4 classes per week of cardio and light weights. I'm trying to track nutrition and stick within a certain range -- albeit one that is nourishing for both me and the small human who calls me home. My goal is keep my weight gain in check, stay as active as I can through out (keeping in mind that my energy levels and capabilities will most likely vary) and have as healthy a pregnancy as possible.

Sparkpeople has given me an awesome gift in the form of the tools needed to make a healthy lifestyle. I plan to pass those tools on to my child and that starts now!
