Traveling and healthy eating.
Sunday, April 10, 2016
I was traveling this weekend, which wreaked havoc on my healthy eating. Had anyone been with me I probably would have been far more motivated to plan options that didn't come from a drive thru window. Unfortunately, I was alone and went with simplicity.
I was camping, but do to unseasonably cold temperatures (30 degrees...in April...in the South!) and 20 mph winds I wasn't at liberty to build a campfire and cook delicious foods as I normally would. That's why I opted to eat out far more than I should. Fact: nothing good comes from a drive thru window. True I could have made salad, sandwiches, or dozens of other options without a campfire, but it was almost as if I saw it as an opportunity to eat badly. What it comes down to is that I was faced with temptation, and gave in without a second thought to how many steps in reverse I was taking.
What have I learned from this experience that will assist me as I continue my journey? I have to plan meals and snacks ahead when I'm traveling. Also, if I'm camping I need to take into consideration what the weather will be like. If there is going to be a ban on burning, then I will know ahead of time that cooking over an open fire will not be an option and I will be prepared.
I am extremely routine, so when my routine gets out of alignment it really causes an issue. What's done is done, and it is time to forgive myself and continue my journey. I will use this past weekend as a learning tool so I can be better prepared in the future.
